Heavy Hittaz - "The Raw Saw"

Heavy Hittaz are a rap duo outta Dumas, Arkansas. This is one of the better albums I have heard outta Arkansas. Heavy Hittaz brings a variety of rap styles on this 15 track debut album that was originally released in 2000.

1. Raw Saw-- The album kicks off with one of the tightest tracks on the entire album. They rep Arkansas over a tight beat which has a rap/blues sound to it. Hook goes "The Raw Saw...Dirty South...Arkansas, we raw"--tight song.

2. Get The Cash-- this song got them rappin over a genie-type beat. Also features a guy singin R&B in the background and a female rapper, both who are not mentioned in the booklet. This track is alright but a letdown after an impressive opening track.

3. Do It How They Like-- this song got a Memphis style of rap to it with some tongue twistin thrown in. The beat could use some work though.

4. Tell It-- this is a song is about how you can tell how to tell if someone if from the "dirty south". Hook goes "you can tell it by the way that we walk, and you can tell it by the way that we talk."

5. Can't Let It Ride-- this song again features the female rapper. Another song with a little bit of a Memphis feel to it. Beats are lacking though.

6. Heavy Hittaz-- they rap over a beat with trumpets in the background. They basically saying how they gonna put Arkansas on the map.

7. Project Nigga Love-- song starts immediately with a female R&B singer so this makes me wanna hit skip on the CD player. I wouldn't have minded if they left this song off the album.

8. Bout That Bank-- this sounds like some crunk type music outta Georgia or Louisiana rapped over a New Orleans beat. Not really feelin this song.

9. Country Style-- the beat here is nothing more than a simple drum beat. They rap kinda slow on here. It's not that bad of a song but the beat makes the song kinda drag on.

10. Can't Fade P.C.-- they are rappin over a drum beat with background guitar. There is really nothing that stands out on this song.

11. No Love-- this is a deep song about being in the ghetto and about to die. Pretty good song but I could do without the female crooning in the background.

12. Gangster Bitch-- this song is about how we need gangster bitches. Line of the song: "you hollerin woo pig sooie while I'm driving you crazy" (woo pig sooie is the Hog Call for the University of Arkansas for those of you unfamiliar with it)-- this is a pretty tight song.

13. Heartz Of Pain-- this is another deep song about death how the pain never goes away. You can tell this song was recorded earlier because the production needs work. This track really feels out of place on this album.

14. Who Get It Crunk-- this song samples the beat from UNLV's "Drag Em In The River" with police sirens/helicopters in the background. They really flowing (almost tongue twistin) on this track. One of the tighter songs on the album.

15. Outro-- shoutouts to different people

Overall, Heavy Hittaz came through with a nice debut album. They got real potential to break out of Arkansas and sign a major record deal somewhere in the future. But the downfall of the album is the production (especially on the second half of the album). Nothing stands out beat-wise except for maybe "Raw Saw". The beats are what prevents me from giving this album a higher rating. But Heavy Hittaz show they do have talent and hopefully, their next album will have better production and they can further showcase their talent. Don't be surprised to hear from them nationwide in the future.
