Gangsta Blac - Da Undaground King

Album Rate: 4.0 out of 5 Stars

Gangsta Blac is back with his 17 track, 5th solo album on his new label Taylor Made Records/Mouth Of Da South Music. The album features Lil Gain from Playa Posse, Lil Noid, and production from Peppa & GB himself.

1. Undaground King-- this track is a nice way to start the album off. The beat got a bunch of scratchin while the chant of "All Hail The Undaground King" goes on in the background. Blac raps about how independent pays and how he used to roll with DJ Paul. Tight song.

2. Da Mayor-- this track starts and ends with a little Chris Rock skit. The beat on this one is a nice mid tempo beat that'll have ya head noddin. Blac flows nicely over the beats and drops several tight verses. The track ends with the Chris Rock skit again.

3. Good Man-- this track has got a faster tempo beat to it than the previous tracks and Blac keeps up by rappin in a faster style. There's some horns mixed in there every now and then. Lil Gain drops the second verse and he comes tight on mic. The hook on here sounds like it was sampled from something but I'm not quite sure. Gangsta Blac finishes out the track with another nice verse.

4. Fight-- this track has the old Gangsta Blac underground feel to it. Once you listen to it, it'll remind you of his "Breakin Da Law" underground CD. Blac is rappin about messin someone up and fightin all night. It's an OK track.

5. Grimmy-- the beat on this one has got a piano mixed in with a tight bassline. This one is a slower rap song with Gangsta Blac laying some tight ass verses about how he's come out of the hood to blow up in the rap world. Definitely one of the best songs on the album.

6. Code Red-- the beat on this one is some mixes from a drum machine with some guitars and occasional yelling mixed in. I don't know about this one. The beat kinda ruins the song. Blac comes tight but the beat ain't all that.

7. Da Truth-- Blac starts off the song off by claiming to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. GB tells us that "he's goin tell it like it should be told." Gangsta Blac lays down a solid verse followed by Lil Gain who then drops down a nice verse. Blac ends the song by laying down another tight verse.

8. Shot-- the track starts off and gives you that underground feel. Gangsta Blac and Lil Gain each drop a nice verse. Tight song.

9. Sap Sucka-- this track off with a more uptempo beat that sounds like something that Timbaland would give ya. I'm not really feelin this track cause it sounds like GB is stretchin his rap style on this one.

10. Gangsta Blac-- the beat on this one has more of a laid back feel. Blac lays down some tight verses on this one.

11. What Ya Think-- this one has a uptempo beat with a guitar strum over a fast bassline. GB raps about he's still makin it and how he's not starving yet. You think that GB is gonna run out of breath the way he raps on this one. Nice song.

12. Get Da Fuck-- the hook on this one is sung in way that makes it seem like you stumbled on a satanic ritual in a cemetary. Gangsta Blac comes correct on the mic. The song seems a little weird but it's still tight.

13. My Shit-- the uptempo beat on this one has got a lot of scratchin on it. Gangsta Blac proclaims that "without Fly, I gotta run the team". Lil Noid lays down a decent verse on the song. The hook goes "I rap my shit like I talk my shit/ain't no way I'm gonna let you push me off this shit." Blac lays down the third verse to close the song out.

14. Kinfolk-- the beat on this one has a slower, darker than what has appeared so far on the album. There is a pretty nice bassline as well. G. Blac uses this track to just spit some verses on what's on his mind right now. Pretty nice track.

15. Taylor Made-- the beat on this one is slower guitar strum over a mid tempo bassline. It's an all right track. I kinda think that Lil Gain drops a tighter verse than GB on this one.

16. 45-- the beat on this one has a island feel to it. Lil Gain flows nicely on the first verse of the song. Gangsta Blac drops an all right verse next. Gain ends the song with another tight verse and even rips off Crunchy Blac with his "ain't no nigga gon' play with me..".

17. Skit 2-- telephone answering machine skit over the "Undaground King" beat

Overall, I thought the album had some bright spots and then what seemed like filler tracks. The front half of the album was better in my opinion and kinda fell off toward the end. Lil Gain does a nice job on his guest appearances but Lil Noid sounds very mediocre on his appearance. For the most part, the production isn't too bad. The album is worth checkin out for the GB fans but don't expect it to be better than "Can It Be" or "I Am Da Gangsta".
