Memphis Bleek- The Understanding Reviewed by- Jaydog240 Album Rate- 3.5 out of 5

Jay-Z's protege' and the first cat to be signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella records. Most people say that Bleek has the potential but always fails to hold it down. Memphis Bleek's flows nice over the beats but his lyrics are average. Even though he's been in the game for a while, he's still young and it's not too late for him to step it up.

1. Intro (U Know Bleek)- basically it's just samples of Bleek spittin'. The beat is hot and I wish it could of been used for a song.

2.Do My f/Jay-Z- This is a male vs female anthem. We know Bleek is good at rappin' about the females. Both Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek come off good on this one and it's also a good club banger.

3.I Get High- My favorite track off the album. The song has a nice relaxing/emotional feeling. Bleeks talks about smokin', bein' alone, and thinkin' about his brother that passed away.

4.We Get Low- This is one of those tracks that you may not want to play all the time when you put this CD in. The beat is kinda annoying and has one of a kiddy chorus. You may like this track at first but gets watered down as you keep listening.

5.Change Up f/Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel- This is one of those tracks that changes beats during each verse. All three R.O.C. members come off nice but too bad the song clocks in at 2:05.

6.My Mind Right (Remix) f/Jay-Z, H Money Bags, & Beanie Sigel)- We all heard the original version on Clue's Mixtape. The beat is still the same has more MC's rappin' over it. Jay-Z kicks it off and does his thing as usual. He also throws a subliminal diss to Meeno from Harlem World. H Money Bags who is now incarcerated and Bleek's homeboy comes off decent. Bleek & Sigel's verse were OK.

7.Hustlers f/Beanie Sigel- Another one of those emotional Roc-A-Fella tracks. Bleek & Sigel talk about their struggling days and how they had to hustle to keep themselves on their feet. It's alright track to me but others will feel it even more.

8.All Types of Shit- I like the beat on this one. Memphis Bleek just boast about what he has (Cars, Money, Clothes, & Hoes) and uses a homonyum for each material after each line and starts the line with "All Types Of".

9.PYT f/ Jay-Z & Amil- One of those down for me songs. Bleek raps about the pretty young thangs (PYT) being down for him. Nothing really much goes on this track. Jay-Z drops and small verse and Amil was pretty decent. Too bad it was the last track she did for Roc-A-Fella before she was dropped.

10.Bounce Bitch- This song is straight out corny. First of all, you're gonna get tired of him sayin' "Bitch" in almost everyline. This song has many of them. The beat sounds like some circus shit.

11.They'll Never Play Me- At least he picks it up on this track. The beat is coo, has a little Rodeo to it. Bleek tells us that he ain't gonna get played and is gonna keep his cash stacked.

12.Everyday f/ Carl Thomas- Possibly the worst track on the album. Carl Thomas doesn't help the track either. I never listened to the whole thing because I always press the next track button to......

13.Is That Your Chick (The Lost Verses) f/Jay-Z, Twista, & Missy Elliot- Timbaland on the beat. There are other versions of this song. The one with just Jay-Z and the other with Jay-Z & Twista. Of course Missy on the chorus. Now Bleek decides to appear on the track. You can't really call it his own song because Jay-Z has more verses them him. Now on to the song. Jay-Z kicks it off throwing a subliminal diss to Charlie Baltimore about her days wit Biggie. Bleek comes off nice with his first verse. Next up, the fast rappin' Twista and straight up killed it. And Jay-Z and Bleek finish off the song. You'll play this one over and over.

14.In My Life- I love this song. It's one of those songs that make you wanna be alone. Basically the track is dedicated to Bleek's brother who died recently during that time. The voice samples in the song definately bring the song out. Bleek's emotional lyrics make the track stand out from the others.

Overall it's a dope album. Bleek can step it up on the lyrics though. He also says "Bitch" too much. His guest often outshine him making you think that the track wasn't even his. One thing is that Bleek can choose some dope beats, that's for sure.
