We, the Union of Journalists of the Philippines-UP, a
pro-masses, pro-student organization, strongly call for the
repeal of the Human Security Act or Republic Act No. 9372.
We believe that the HSA tramples upon constitutionally
protected rights like the right to free speech, privacy, and
most especially, the right to ask the government for redress of
grievances.(READ MORE)
The University of the Philippines, being the country’s
state university, is supposed to provide free education to those
who deserve it. The belief is that as long as there is UP, there
is a place where brilliant minds, regardless of economic status,
can be honed to their fullest potential. The recent increase of
tuition and other fees, however, killed that belief.
Raw interviews with some UPCAT passers, especially

tuition is their main reason for not entering the University.

Faculty Regent Roland Simbulan who said in an interview with The
Philippine Collegian that the new STFAP is nothing but a “guise”
for acquiring “more money in the form of tuition.”(READ MORE)

Published in 2003, this portable document format of the folio
collects poems, short stories and essays on the topic of moving

The Union of Journalists of the Philippines - UP Diliman (UJP-UP) strongly condemns the killing of Tanod photojournalist Prudencio "Dick" Melendres last July 31.
As mass communication students, we are fraught with fear and anger over this vicious succession of killings. We worry for our future in this profession that we have chosen; if this should continue, then surely we also can be targets someday. Even with our worries, we remain vigilant in the fight to bring to an end these killings of journalists. (READ MORE)
