MR UHURU KENYATTA FOR PRESIDENT
     PREAMBLE [MWANZO]

All the words that we speak
And all the words that we write,
Must spread out their message untiring,
And never rest in their journey,
Till they come where your good, good heart is,
And talk to you patriotic Kenyans,
Beyond where your dreams are moving,
And touch your friendly soul.

      INTRODUCTION

His excellency president Daniel arap Moi must be a visionary. He has proved that he is aware that among the things that influence men to want to lead a country are greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self- interest. And having known that, he went out seeking someone who did not possess any of these traits: The solution is that he has bequeathed us Mr Uhuru Kenyatta as his preferred successor.Mr Uhuru is a man with qualities all honest people admire: wisdom, humility, kindness, understanding and feeling. What else, dear Kenyans, can we ask from our beloved retiring president?

WHY UHURU IS THE BEST CANDIDATE

The cousins- Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt- are among the three most popular American presidents of the 20th century acording to TIME magazine of April 1998. Therefore, having a relative as a former president is not a liability; if anything, it could even be an asset [ even from a biological perspective].
So who are we? We are ordinary Kenyan citizens who graduated from diferrent local public universities about ten years ago. We believe Kenya will become great because there is a time for everything, and the time has come. Remember the Biblical story about seven years of plenty and seven years of famine?
We hereby declare that we will vote for Mr Uhuru Kenyatta as the next president of Kenya. We believe he is the best candidate among those offering themselves for election. On president Moi's choice of successor, we agree entirely with him. And we've met many, many Kenyans who agree with his excellency the president on this issue. We also do hereby offer a few reasons why Mr Uhuru is the best man to run this country when president Moi retires:
- Mr Uhuru Kenyatta is young and therefore possesses the vigour and vitality required to solve the many problems plaguing the country.
- He has not served in public service untill very recently. Contrary to some people's opinion, that is a great asset to the young man. He has not, by virtue of not even being there, ever misappropriated public funds or influenced offering of tenders to the most mediocre and corrupt constructors.
- He was initially reluctant to join politics. This means that he is NOT obsessed with power. He will therefore set policies which, through his own wisdom and that of his advisers, he hopes will modernize Kenya; and God forbid, if they fail, he won't hang on. Power drunkenness is dangerous, just like the kumi-kumi addiction. And some of his opponents fail miserably in this area. They are obsessed with the acquisition of power to the extent that they can seize it by force if they thought such an opportunity was there. And all for what purpose? To satisfy their bloated egos.
- Some Kenyan politicians have said that the problem with our economy is entirely because of the high interest rates charged by commercial banks. They have come up with bills purporting to set lending rates and have argued vehemently about the need to go back to state control of banks [ and hence other secctors]. All that, dear Kenyans, is nonsense.
Many ordinary Kenyans, including ourselves, save and borrow from their own SACCOS at very low rates. Has parliament done anything to empower this SACCOS? No. Have they put a case that some of the most liquid public institutions save with our SACCOS and therefore increase the borrowing power of ordinary mwananchi? NO. They have only looked at their own interests. That's why we support those who have been outside this Clique which has assumed that Kenyans [ outside parliament] are morons, and proceeded to bring legislation based on that premise. Mr Uhuru is knowledgeable enough to know that sometimes mwananchi will need to be protected from a few over-greedy and myopic MPs.

      ECONOMY

Akili ni nywele, kila mtu ana zake. When Mr Uhuru becomes president, it will be time to talk about three things: economy, economy, economy [ as Mr Clinton said before he was elected president; it's the econmy, stupid!]
Our unemployment rate is too high- dangerously high. Reviving our economy should be our top priority. Our points will be brief and simple:- Since Kenyans need jobs now, we should work on ways of taking our economy through the 'fast track'. We won't talk about agriculture etc because everybody knows its the foundation of our economy and Mr Uhuru also knows that, being a farmer himself.
We are convinced that there are three areas that can generate thousands of jobs very quickly, and hoping that after 100 days of office Mr Uhuru will deliver the ' State of the Nation' address, there will be things to celebrate. The three areas are: textiles, media, information technology.

INFOMATION TECHNOLOGY: We have the human resources, the problem is infrastructure. Recall that when mobile phones came into the market, demand exceeded supply! To cut a long story short, we have about a million mobile phone subscribers. May be we are dreamers- it is Theodore Roosevelt who said that," I hold a man worthless who is not a dreamer, who does not see visions". Imagine this:
Suppose Uhuru's govt ensures that in its first month in office, the IT revolution time will have come. Applying for a landline and connection time- 1 week, cost to consumer-sh 2,000. Yearly connection to ISP-sh1,000. Govt also actively ensures faster, easier importation of old computers. We've seen good 486 computers selling at sh 8,000.
Suppose, too, that the prices come down[ through govt subsidy- haven't American companies survived on subsidies during hard times?] to, say, sh4,000. Total cost will be around sh 8,000. the internet revolution will have arrived- with millions of Kenyans being online. Within 12 month, we'll be at par with South Africa [already having our own millionnares, 'shuttleworths]. Then, after 24 months, Nairobi will be the undispited Internet capital of Africa- and taking advantage of Comesa etc to dominate this area. Thousands of Kenyans will get jobs in this field in a few months. Do you think 'silicon valley', 'microsoft' etc just happenned? Then you can believe aything. Twenty five years ago Japan was on the verge of becoming the leading economy in the world. Hence America had to look for fast ways of encouraging alternative technologies through tax concessions, govt over-quoted tenders etc.
- On textiles, the govt already has seen the opportunities here but much more needs to be done. Untill we reach a time when we don't depend only on export of textiles [for hard currency], and then import them back as used clothes [minus hard currency], the industry is going nowhere. The local market must not be ignored. This is an area that can create thousands of jobs within six months if the govt gets into the action to ensure that happens.
The case of Media is obvious. Kenya can dominate Media/Films production in East and Central Africa within no time and we know Mr Uhuru's new govt will treat the media houses as friends. About local films [or board], it is a big joke. You just don't make films hoping for Oscar/Cannes glory if Kenyans cannot even watch them for free because of their obvious laughable mzungu-oriented shameful bias. We are sure Mr Uhuru will involve 'doers' in this area, not bureaucrats of the old school who can't spot talent if it stares them in the face.

    FUTURE PROSPECTS

What are the prospects of our country creating 40,000 new jobs in three months? What are the prospects of doubling the salaries of all govt employees? It all goes down to planning; and strategy.
Among all the candidates offering themselves for the presidency, only Mr Uhuru Kenyatta looks comfortable whenever he has appeared in any part of Kenya. He's relaxed. Let us quote from a Newsweek article about Mr Pat Moynihan, who was elected as Senator representing New York 4 times, untill he retired recently and actively ecouraged Mrs Clinton  to replace him. When he was asked by a reporter whether he can fight 'to the death' over elections, he replied,"Oh no. Country, God...things like that. Elections? No". He is 73 yrs old and widely recognized as a sage in his country.
Anyway, our point is, Mr Uhuru is relaxed when campaigning because elections- although important- is not a life and death issue.
Mr Uhuru seems to recognize that the Borana, the Kuria, The Arab, the Indian, the Kamba etc have one thing in common. They want to work peacefully, succeed in life, and be proud to be Kenyan.
We have never met Mr Uhuru but we know from his general composure on TV that he will readily listen to reasonable counsel and propel this country forward. It is not impossible for our country to have the fastest growing economic growth rate in the world. Let us vote for him, and he in turn, we are sure will surround himself with thinkers.
Finally, we will make the following prediction. In five years time, there will be peace in the Sudan, DR Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Somalia. And Kenya will be ready to trade with them, offering them advanced modern media, world standard IT, et al.
Remember the riches of oil-less Lebanon before the 1982 invasion? We are talking about great prospects for Kenya if and only if we elect an untainted person who believes that Kenya has the capacity to take its place as an Economic Leader in the region. For further economic analysis, we suggest you read about the development of Malaysia- like Kenya not well-endowed with natural resources but has exploited its Human resources superbly- from 1970 to present.
