UEHS @ Yahoogroups!

We do have a UEHS forum that is intended for all graduates of UE High School (training and regular classes). It has been in circulation since 2004, created after a reunion in Manila that was organized by Ed Thomas (Class '66) earlier that year.

Any UE High graduate who wishes to join this eGroup may do so by emailing the following info/item to the moderator, Art C. Faelnar at contact_art@hotmail.com :

Your Full Name
Year of Graduation (Class Year)
Your Place of Residence
Your Birthday (Month and Day only)
Your digital photo

Your mini-profile will appear in the UEHS Web Directory that is accessible via  the link on the left side of your screen.

PHOTOGRAPHS AND MEMORIES
by Art C Faelnar

After almost five years since my last visit to the Philippines, I once more came back but this time with a plan. In addition to attending a reunion with former co-employees at the Manila Garden, I took a trip to places outside of Manila. My travel took me and my family north to the Ilocos region - as far as Pagudpud, the last Ilocos town before Cagayan, then to Vigan. Afterwards, we went to Subic in Zambales then to Angeles, Pampanga. Finally, we stayed overnight at the Estancia Resort in Tagaytay where we did a trek to the Taal Volcano's crater. Extreme emotions filled my trip, from the joy of being united with former co-workers (Hilton, Philippine Plaza and Manila Garden) to the sad passing of a very good friend, Linda Narciso-Ilano, of Manila Garden. Even now, I am already looking forward to my next visit and hopefully, another trip to places that I have not yet been to in the Philippines.

Please click on the photo above to see photos I took during my trip.

SAN ELIJO HILLS FIRE
by Chito Gaviola (Class '74)

(October 28, 2007) I just like to share these pictures with you taken from the San Elijo Hills fire that caused us to evacuate Sunday (10/21/07) morning . There are two night time (or early morning) pictures and two day time pictures. Thank God, the San Marcos Fire Dept. did an outstanding job in containing the fire. Not a single house was lost and we were able to return Wednesday (10/24/07) afternoon.

FINDING FRIENDS
by Isabel Mendez
Class of '82

Hello. I'm looking for my classmates who belonged to the class that we named  "The Naughty Class of IV-L" because we used to get a lot in trouble with the Vice Principal. We used to call him 'ELVIS' because he sported side burns at the time.

We were jazzers in school and anyone who used to listen to Air Supply at the time were kicked out of the class. LOL! Chuck Mangione, Dave Grusin, George Benson, The Manhattan Transfer.. just to name a few who we enjoyed listening to.

I remember when a funny essay titled "An Interview With America" was submitted to our Filipino Class teacher by mistake (America was the band who sang the song "A Horse With No Name". LOL!) That was a very funny essay but boy! Did we all really get in trouble!

I'm going to start mentioning names and see if you are one of them: Dave Tuibeo, Gilford Jasmin, Marlon Acojido, Thelmo Bennett, Christina Barquez, Arsenia Abad... and the rest I can't remember. I lost track of you guys since I moved to Canada and ever since I started traveling the world after I graduated, simply just disappeared from everyone. The last time I saw everybody was in 1984 after I got back from Singapore. We were celebrating another year of togetherness as a group. We were very close. My Mom told me before that Dave was trying to contact me for our 5th Anniversary since graduating. And that was it. That was the last time I ever heard from him.

Gilford, I tracked you down through PDA, called them but you have nothing on your records. Not even a phone number. Where the heck are you?

Guys if you read this, please e-mail me and let me know your whereabouts. We need to get together again for some spiked punch. LOL! (Remember that one Christmas party we had and our teacher got drunk?) I was the class DJ, bringing records to play.

I miss you guys!

UE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HISTORY
by Angelica T. Marquez
Director, UE Alumni Affairs

The UE Alumni Association is 55 years old.

In 1949, while formerly called the PCCBA, the first batch of graduates organized what is now known as the UE Alumni Association. Spearheading these graduates were Arsenio D. Narciso who became the 1st president, ably assisted by Henry Dyliaco. Notable of their projects was the Placement Bureau, which assisted many graduates secure job placements.

Through these years, the Association was gifted by the presence of Miss Ofelia S. Salas who, as the Executive Secretary, consistently served ably and with much selfless dedication.

In 1962, the first-real Alumni House materialized through the efforts of the Board of Directors, with Alfonso A. Altiveros as President.

In this same year, with the same set of officers, several projects materialized, namely: Songfest ?an inter-university choral competition, which is believed to have triggered the massive appreciation, nationwide today for choral singing and competitions, introduced on campus an annual tradition still observed, called the Christmas tree lighting and candlelight ceremonies that ushers in the yuletide spirit; scholarship grants, the first recipient of which was Miss Pacita Abasolo, once a faculty in the UE College of Business Administration, followed by Miss Ruby Resuello, whose parents are both alumni, graduated BSBA Cum Laude in 1982.

A most beautiful gesture of the Alumni was the Alma Mater. She once stood majestically in the main building balcony overlooking the Quadrangle. Nationally known sculptor, Guillermo Tolentino created it with Miss Salas as his Inspiration. The sculptor confided to the 1953 Board of Directors that he was really so inspired. Mrs. Luz B. Magsaysay, then the Philippines First Lady, officially unveiled her on January 27, 1957. This was made possible during the term of Howard Q. Dee. On March 31, 1997, the Alma Mater was re-unveiled after it was relocated from the Rizal Hall, in the second floor of the SFC building to its present position. It now faces CM Recto, the way it used to when it was first unveiled, with her arms outstretched in welcome to the studentry.

Other ambitious projects followed such as the first edition of the UE Alumni Directory in 1960 which was updated in 1980.

Today, the Association has made greater strides. The granting of a scholarship to poor but talented students have been realized through UEAAI donations. These are UEAAI scholars: Barbara Concepcion, AB Communication Arts; Marlon Marquez, BSCE; Annie Mallen, BSBA Marketing; Neria Theresa Superable, AB Communication Arts; Marielle Orbon, BSA; Marianne Estrada, BSBA Banking & Finance; Ma. Divina Herminigildo, BSBA Banking & Finance; Jeffrey Asuncion, AB Communication Arts; Rosano Manalastas, BSED; the UEBAAI scholar is Jorry Castillo, BBA and; UE Guam Alumni Chapter scholar is Sheba Torres, BS Computer Science.
