DO'S and DON'TS
DO
-remember to have your patients pay for their exams... They aren't free, as
Alvin found out...
-review all of your ocular health stuff. Especially cataract and PVD
-use the FDT instead of Humphrey... it'll save you lots of time, which we all need more of...
-Avoid Pink Slips ("Nastygrams"):
1. Exam -exam form needs both student
clinician signature & faculty signature -exam info needs to be entered into
the computer
(even for follow-up appts.)
2. Fees -patients have to pay before
they can leave (if patient is staying for eyewear selection, then they can
pay when they are
done with that if they decide to leave and they forget to pay, you will probably
end up getting a pink slip or a FYI form
because you were the last person to see that patient. In that case there's
really nothing that you can do about it.)
-No charge
exams (i.e. follow-ups) still have to be entered in the computer. No charge
visits can be entered into the computer by
Joe, Marlo, or Christine at the front desk and also by Kay or Antonia at the
EWC front desk. -don't forget that
patients are also responsible for co-pays
3. Chron Sheets - every file has to have
a chron sheet; so if you have a new patient, don't forget to fill out a new
chron
sheet - every
visit has to be documented on the chron sheet
4. Insurance: - photocopy insurance card
and add to file (sometimes people at the front desk will do this for you)
- VSP authorization
is usually completed by the front desk when the patient schedules an appt,
but sometimes they get too
busy and
so you may have to ask them to do it for you while you start examing the patient
(be careful though because sometimes
the patient won't want the exam unless they're covered by insurance, so don't
get to far into your exam
w/o first finding
out what their insurance covers) - When you finish an exam, you have to complete
the fee portion for
the exam
on the VSP form
-Deal with Suitcase Patients Appropriately
1) Pts. are only eligible
for SV or FT 28.
2) After the exam,
if pt. is interested in glasses, do all frame selection (F/S) and measurements
in the exam room. DO NOT
BRING PT. TO EWC. A BIG NO-NO!!!
3) Donated frames are
found in the drawers across from the Humphrey Field Analyzer II in mod B (maybe
mod A, too) . 4)DO NOT, UNDER
ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, RELEASE Rx TO PT.
5) After frame selection
is completed, pt. is free to go (you might want to escort pt. to lobby, of
course).
6) After pt. has left,
fill out a fee sheet and an order form (K&K lab form) at the EWC.
7) Submit fee sheet
to cashier.
DO NOT
-sign up for Weight Watchers because we have Summer Clinic where you will
be missing many-a-lunches and can easily lose those unwanted pounds.
