UAE POSTAL ADMINISTRATION
UAE
came into being on December 2nd, 1971 and Sharjah General Post Office
continued its service as an independent postal administration. When UAE came
into being, a special slogan was made to mark this event. The slogan
inscribed “Birth of an Arabic Country / 2/12/1971 / United Arab Emirates /
Unity is Strength” in green ink. On
August 1st, 1972, the UAE postal administration controlled the postal service
in the seven emirates, and during August 1972, the 1970 Abu Dhabi definitive
issue were overprinted with “UAE” in English and “United Arab
Emirates” in Arabic. Low values, 5f, 10f, and 25f were introduced in
Sharjah post office, and combination usage of the “UAE” overprints and
Sharjah stamps are known used. When
the first UAE definitives set was issued on January 1st, 1973,
Sharjah stamps were still continued in use, and combination usage of UAE
first definitives and Sharjah stamps are known used in Sharjah and Khor
Fakkan post office. The
double circle cancel inscribed “SHARJAH U.A.E” in Arabic and English
is the first Sharjah UAE cancel. The cancel (Type se1) was introduced
during the year 1973 and known used as late as 1976. Sharjah currently post offices:-
