The Blade of Shinzon

Praetor Shinzon, clone of Captain Picard, leader of the Romulan-Reman Empire, could often be seen brandishing a dagger in the movie Star Trek Nemesis. In fact, Shinzon holds the dagger in several promotional posters for the same movie.

Over here, Shinzon holds the dagger over his bald head.

Here in this poster which hangs on the wall in my room, Shinzon welds the Reman dagger with his right hand.

So, to my amazement, one day while I was reading the local newspapers, I noticed a picture of another familar face holding the very same dagger! The picture is that of Buffy, from the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's a picture of Buffy doing one of her stabbing scene from her show. Notice the similarity between the blades?

No doubt, the two daggers could probably be the same prop, or they came from the same place. In fact, from the IMDB trivia for Star Trek Nemesis, it says that the daggers were designed by an American knife-designer named Gil Hibben, who had also designed the knives seen in Rambo III. Therefore the daggers used in Star Trek Nemesis were not designed for the movie in particular, and most of the designs used are at least ten years old.

Anyway, the dagger looks cool, and it's amusing to see that Buffy is doing her killing with the dagger that Praetor Shinzon happened to be using.
