These are some more websites
we think might be useful to teach this unit, or any unit dealing with comic
books as a form of literature.
-
A brief history of comics
can be found here.
-
And if that isn't enough
to satisfy your curiosity... Check this
place out! This site provides more detail on the history of superheros
(and supervillains... *sinister voice* mwahahahhaha!!!) in comic
books. Sure, it's not exactly a study of "the genre as literature",
but more a study of the "canon" of comic books, if you will...
-
This
site deals with the "graphic novel", which is basically a novel-length
comic book. I especially recommend the section on the graphic novel
Maus.
-
This
website was created by an "academic" in support of this "non-academic"
genre, and it's very well written. I think the first part is definitely
worth a look! :o)
-
To get to the "Comic Art
& Graffix Gallery Virtual Museum & Encyclopedia" click on this.
-
The National
Museum of American Jewish History has a website dealing with an travelling
exhibit based on Maus. The exhibit may be long-gone, but the website
provides the reader with a good deal of information. It's definitely
worth checking out!
