Upcoming games at Comerica Park The Tigers will be wecoming the Minnesota Twins to Comerica Park to finish up block 1 of the 2005 Ted Williams Strat League season. Minnesota also struggled in 2004 finishing 13 games behind the Tigers. Minnesota had a pretty good draft this spring and it appears they may have improved more significantly than have the Tigers, but as they say 'that is why we play the games'.

 

Block 1 at Kansas City

Game 1 - Juan Uribe had 2 base hits as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Detroit Tigers by the score of 5 to 1 at Kauffman Stadium. Roy Oswalt(1-0) put on a good performance. He allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. For the game Kansas City out-hit Detroit 10 to 6. Juan Rincon recorded his 1st save. Jake Westbrook(0-1) suffered the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.

Game 2 - At Kauffman Stadium, the Kansas City faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Brandon Webb(1-0) finally bested his Kansas City counterpart, Rich Harden(0-1), by the score of 3 to 1. Webb delivered a fine performance for Detroit. He surrendered 6 hits and 6 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Detroit had just 6 hits for the night. Webb got help from Rudy Seanez who earned his 1st save. Harden was hit with the loss. He struck out 10 batters in 7 innings despite losing the game. 'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Webb, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'

Block 1 vs. Kansas City

Game 1 - Juan Uribe had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Comerica Park where the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 3 to 0. Kansas City had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 5th inning when they had 3 base hits. It was enough to earn the victory. Kansas City had only 6 hits for the game. Roy Halladay(1-0) went 5 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Dan Miceli recorded the save, his 1st. Bronson Arroyo(0-1) absorbed the loss. Although losing the contest, he whiffed 9 batters in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Game 2 - The Detroit Tigers edged the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park by the score of 5 to 4. T.J. Tucker(1-0) won the game with a masterful relief performance. He gave up just 2 hits and no walks in 3 innings. The Kansas City offense proved no trouble in the 9th. Dan Miceli(0-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning.

Block 1 at Cleveland

Game 1 - Melvin Mora had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Detroit Tigers in 11 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at Jacobs Field. The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Cleveland won it in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Luis Castillo laced a base-hit. Jack Wilson next to the plate and he delivered a one-base hit. Michael Cuddyer was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Dmitri Young followed and he was hit by a pitch. Jeffrey Hammonds came to the plate and drew a walk giving Cleveland the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Cleveland had a total of 11 hits for the game. Rodrigo Lopez(1-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. T.J. Tucker(1-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits and no walks.

Game 2 - Brian Schneider blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Cleveland Indians topped the Detroit Tigers by a score of 5 to 4 at Jacobs Field. Detroit was unable to recover after Cleveland went ahead in the 3rd inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Jack Wilson led off and started the attack as he doubled. Schneider stepped up next and he cracked a two-run shot (his 1st of the season). Danny Graves earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 1st save. The victory went to Javier Vazquez(1-0) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 4 runs. Rob Bell(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 3 walks.

Block 1 vs. Cleveland

Game 1 - In a two run game the Detroit Tigers got by the Cleveland Indians by the score of 8 to 6. Cleveland fell behind quickly as the Detroit offense came through in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 4 base hits. The Cleveland bats were silent in the 9th. Jake Westbrook(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings. Westbrook got help from T.J. Tucker who earned his 1st save. Kenny Rogers(0-1) ended up with the loss. He allowed Detroit 7 runs in 5 innings of work.

Game 2 - In a good matchup it was the Cleveland Indians 6, the Detroit Tigers 4 at Comerica Park. Cleveland scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 8th inning when they scored 4 runs on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Melvin Mora who quieted the home crowd when he smacked a three-run homer (his 1st of the season). Cleveland managed 7 in their victory. Rodrigo Lopez(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Danys Baez earned the save, his 1st. Scott Dohmann(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. Cleveland scored big getting 3 runs off him in 2 innings.
