Leigh Blakey and Lee Taylor are the
Two Lee's Studio in Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia. Originally owners of
a toy store; kite testing was part of researching the stock. Kites became
the consuming interest and fascination with kites quickly went beyond their
qualities as toys . Soon
the partners were designing, constructing
and selling their own kites and they have been involved in the Kiting Community
in Canada and the U.S.A. since 1989.
Leigh has always liked drawing and painting
and now kite fabric is the canvas. Nature is the subject and inspiration
in her work.
Lee especially enjoys the physical aspects:
the cutting, sewing, bridling and flying. He loves, through his performance,
to inspire people to the possibilities of even simple kites. Taylor enjoys
seeing his ideas in the sky develop subject matter.
The encouragement of winning ribbons (In
1995 thier hand-painted square diamond, Sun / Moon design won first place
at the Washington State International Kite Festival) led the partners to
sell their toy store. Today, their store is a wind-art business operating
a studio solely based on kites and other wind-art, We are now making four
different kites and several windsocks in various
colors and designs. All are handmade from
high quality materials. The rip stop nylon (spinnaker cloth) is from Bainbridge
International. Hardwood dowels, fiberglass and epoxy rods are used for
structure and all our designs have been tested in various wind conditions. They
also venture out to many kite festivals and host thier own in Davis
Bay every May.
