I've been twirling for my HS for 3 years, and in those years, I've learned alot of tricks and tips to get through halftime shows.

In the beginning of the season, hair flops, makeup melts, and we're just plain dying of thirst at the end of show. I know alot of you aren't HS majorettes, alot of you probably just do the indoor competitions. But some of this tips may help ya'll too.

Use a good quality hairspray. My hair is like very thin and doesn't like to stay anyways, but other girls I've twirled with have thick curl holding hair, and their's have still fallen right along with mine. You can't just use the hairspray you spray on in the morning for school(well unless you're like me and need the salon holding hairspray just to make it to school with rolled hair) And if you're performing at a football game, or something like that, look for hairspray that resists heat, humidity, wind, rain.. things like that. If you have a Beauty supply store near you, check out their hairsprays. They are usually the same stuff hairdressers use on your hair for like prom and for styles you want to stay.

Our squad usually wears our hair in the same style(as much as we can, considering we all have different types of hair, but around the same length). We usualy wear it down, really curly and pouffed out. Sometimes pulled back with a barrette, to keep it out of our eyes.

Keeping hair out of your eyesis really important, doing toss bows(suicides) and then coming up with all your curls in your face is kinda dangerous, and distracting.

Wear show makeup!

This means more than you wore to school that day. Blush to help your cheeks show up, Vaseline on your teeth to help your smile shine, and it helps you remember to smile too. Definitely lipstick. But pick a red that complements you and doesn't make you look trashy.

Try to pick a base that is waterproof(sweatproof) and won't totally disappear by the time you're through with the show.

Always bring your makeup and hairspray(and hair stuff, barrettes, ponytail holders, clips, bobby pins, hair spray) with you, b/c I've found you will usually wish that you had it before the show is over.

I highly recommend a tote bag of some kind to carry your stuff in(boots, shoes, extra hose, makeup, hair stuff, props) Our squad bought matching bags and had our names put on them.

Put sport insoles in your boots(if you wear them to perform). They make your feet feel soooo much better, b/c you feel every rock you step on in boots.

ALWAYS bring extra panty hose, I've snagged so many pairs on bus rides, it's not funny, and it doesn't look good to perform with holes in the hose either.

Always remember that you are performing for an audience. Give them the best of your twirling ability each and every time you perform. Free arms, pointed toes, smiles! And remember to have fun!

Always have water around when you're twirling, when you're done performing you'll want something to drink and water is best anyways:)

Try to keep your fingernails rather short. You'll most likely end up breaking them and that can really hurt. That or you'll claw yourself to death. I'm bad about having long nails at practices and stuff, and people are like "How do you twirl with your nails?" I'm not sure how I do it, but I'm trying to stop b/c i treally hurts to split nails in two.

Night before game: Always have everything you need ready, especially if it's an away game. Above all be sure to have your UNIFORM and BATONS and PROPS! These are really important and most likely you can't perform without them. After these things are packed, get boots(shoes), panty hose, makeup, accesories(we wear earrings to match our uniforms), hair stuff etc.
