Friendship is everything except natural
It's ways and joys are rewards of skillful.
It can not be purchased, bought and sold
Often its value is learned when we're old.

Let me share some insight I have with you
So maybe you'll know just what to do.
To harvest true friends this is what's needed
Go the extra mile, it's not very crowded.

Overlook their faults, weakness and such
And try not to ask for anything much.
May always what you say be carefully worded

Always be present for a friend in need
And by so doing, you'll be a friend indeed.
Stand real tall, so in pain they'll be shaded

Be sure and tell them what they need to hear
But also with love about the things they fear.
Build upon memories so your future is solid
Go the extra mile, it's not very crowded.

We've all set sail in this sea of life
Of living and learning, sometimes by our strife.
Pause for a moment so that when you are rested
You can go the extra mile, where it's not very crowded.
