TURTLE'S WESTBANK RESTAURANT GUIDE
Wholly Mackerel!!!
I have never finished everything on my plate at Wholly Mackerel.  This is not because the portions are too big to finish.

I have been to Al Copeland's latest venture at least six times.  In a city with good seafood restaurants everywhere, why would Al attempt a Quick Service ( Fast Food) restaurant featuring seafood.  At least, it is doing better that his Wrap N Roll comcept.

While the food here is OK, there are many other places on the westbank which deliver better seafood.  The best item I had here was the Seafood Jambalaya.  It was good but I find that Popeye's makes a jambalaya that is just as good and cost less.  After sampling the Crab Cakes at Cafe DiBlasi's, I could not wait to try the Stuffed Crab "Cakes" Lafitte.  While this dish tried to copy DiBlasi's, it failed terribly.  The cake was fried in grease that needed to be changes.  I could taste shrimp and catfish that were obviiously fried in the same grease.  While it may be OK to change chicken grease once a week, grease that is used to fry seafood should be changed often.  I would not mention this but I ate the Crab Cakes at 11:45am. on a Friday.  The grease should have been fresh.

If you order a starter, it will arrive about 30 seconds before your entree.  The service is OK.  You place your order at the counter.  They give you a number which you place in a stand on your table.  You receive your drinks quickly.  Your food takes about 3 to 5 minutes to arrive.  If you attempt  to go with a large group, you need to order on one ticket or your food will be delivered randomly.

If you must eat here, stay with the basic Fried Seafood.  I think Al wasted his time by acquiring the Improv Comedy Club.  This restaurant is funny enough.  Seafood platters through a Drive-Thru window.  He mest really miss Popeye's.
