TURTLE'S WESTBANK RESTAURANT GUIDE
Mosca's
If you were to pass Mosca's on the highway without knowing what it is, you would pass it up without a second thought.  Inside this beat-up run-down shack you will find some of the best food in the city.  The food is so good that many people come from New Orleans ( about 15 miles) to eat here.  This is also a spot that is frequented by tourist.  With a stark dining room and service that is uncommunicatable and very busy , you wonder why is this place always packed.

The food is in my opinion the best Italian food in the city.  Here you will find all of the garlic, olive oil, and rosemary you could ever want.  And being a person who uses a lot of Olive Oil and Garlic, Mosca never fails to satisfy.  Your best bet is to come with a least 4 people.  Each order a dish and pass it around like a Chinese place.  This way you will get maximum enjoyment.  The food is brought out in large platters.  This is followed by plates and utensils that are passed out by your tablemates.

Start off your dinner with  the Crab Salad.  The crabmeat is marinated in oil and mixed with a wonderful blend of herbs.  You may also want to try the marinated crabs.  Either way is a great way to start.

But don't spend too much time on appetizers.  Get ready for the main event.  I think that the best our entrees are the Italian Oysters, Italian Shrimp, Chicken Grandee and the Italian Sausage.  The Italian oysters are baked in olive oil and a combination of seasonings and bread crumbs.  This dish is so good that it is widely copied around the city.  The Italian shrimp are what you would call BBQ shrimp on most menus.  The shrimp is roasted with whole pods of garlic and lots of oregano and rosemary.  The Chicken Grandee is cut up chicken roasted with lots of seasonings.
The Italian Sausage is made in house.  This is the best I have ever eaten.  Order a dish of Pasta Bordelaise.  This is homemade pasta tossed in olive oil and garlic.

There is not many choices for desserts here.  Which is good because by the time you get to this point, you will have eaten so much food that there is no room for dessert.  But if you must insist, try the Pineapple Fluff or the Cheesecake.

The volume in the room is so loud that you have a hard time hearing yourself think.  Do not bring someone here to have a conversation.  You may want to save the talking for the ride home.  I can guarantee that the conversation will be dominated by your feelings on the wonderful food and how full you feel.
