I was introduced to Modern Western Square Dancing in January 1987. I had so much fun, that I couldn't turn down the opportunity to take lessons and learn how to do it properly. My wife and I graduated at the Mainstream program in November of 1987.
After several years of enjoying the Mainstream program we began learning the Plus program and a few years later, completed the Advanced programs.
In 1994, picked up the microphone and in a few moments of madness, attempted to call my first Square Dance singing call. I had been playing guitar and singing, on-stage since 1980, so I didn't expect to have to deal with stage fright or learning to use my voice to entertain people. Well, hiding behind the guitar and singing was much easier than trying to hide behind that little microphone and cable (probably because I had become somewhat more substantial, since picking up the guitar back in 1968).
I am a member of the Square Dance Caller's Club of Great Britain (SDCCGB) and the Northern Area Caller's Association (NARCA). I served as Chairman of NARCA, for several years.
I am presently the Editor of "News And Views", the Newsletter for the Square Dance Callers Club of Great Britain.
I call the Mainstream and Plus programs, twice a week, for two clubs. I share one of these clubs, Harmony Squares, with a very talented caller, Cliff Anderton (Cliff also calls the Mainstream and Plus programs).
