Birr Castle Demesne
Visit the award winning gardens and the great telescope, which was the worlds largest for 70 years. It is open every day.
Clonmacnoise
Founded in 545 AD this ancient monastic site is one of Europes most higly regarded of it's kind. The ruins consist of a cathedral, 8 churches, 2 round towers and 3 high crosses. There is a modern visitors' centre located at the site.

Croghan Hill
Situated ten miles outside Tullamore this stump of an extinct volcano which erupted c.250 million years ago is well worth a climb.
Charleville Castle
The castle itself was built between 1800-1812. It is open to the public by appointment. Its demesne includes the best extent of Oak wood in Offaly.

The Grand Canal
The Canal brought much prosperity to Tullamore since its arrival in 1798. You can stroll alongside it east and west, or take a boat along it if you wish.
Locke's Distillery Museum
Situated in Kilbeggan 7 miles north of Tullamore, this museum is well worth a visit.
Clonmacnoise and West Offaly Railway
Enjoy a 5.5 mile circular tour on board a comfortable train. It gives a wonderful insight into the Blackwater Bog and its unusual flora and fauna.
Fishing
No permit is needed for coarse fishing on the Grand Canal (Pike, Bream etc.) . Trout fishing is available on the River Brosna, Pallas Lake, Lough Ennel. Salmon, Trout, Pike, Perch and Roach are to be found in the nearby Shannon river.
Offaly Celtic Canal Cruisers
Take a leisurely cruise in charge of your own cruiser on the grand canal which passes through Tullamore.
