Tuesday Investment Club

Brief History

The Tuesday Investment Club was founded on June 7, 1983.

The woman who was responsible for starting the Tuesday Investment Club organized a group of friends, neighbors and fellow PTA members! At a meeting on June 28, 1983, it was decided that the "Tuesday Investment Club" would become an official group, when it had ten members. After the ten members were found, the first "official" meeting was held on July 19, 1983.

Our first stock purchased was Smith, Kline & Beckman, purchased at the September 13, 1983 meeting, for $139.86!

Our Members

Our Partnership Agreement allows for a maximum of 20 members, who are expected to attend all or most meetings. We have occasional turnover in membership, but are rarely short of this maximum of 20 members. When a member resigns, we quickly get an interested prospective member, ready to take her place.

The prospective member must attend 2 meetings as a guest. At the end of this second meeting, she tells the club something about herself and is given a membership application. At the next meeting, which she does not attend, we vote on the new member.

Of our 20 current members, only 2 are from the "original 10" charter members. But, of course, this is after 24 years! One strength of our club is that we are a truly diverse group - with a variety of ethnic, national and religious backgrounds.

How We Operate

Members are expected to participate in some way - by being an officer, by reporting on stocks or by serving on a committee.

Every stock is "followed" by a member. This member gives a full report twice a year and brief updates, as appropriate. These brief updates are given in a "round robin," which takes place at the beginning of each meeting.

We also have fun! We have a holiday party every year, usually at somebody's house.
