Colleen became a DONA certified Doula after the brith of her first daughter Emily, who was born at the Birth Center in 1998. She then networked with Desert Doula Birth & Postpartum Services and began to work with Tucson's local hospitals and the Birth Center as a Birth and Postpartum Doula. Collen also completed her CAPPA Childbirth Educator certification, and looks forward to reaching out to, and educating families about childbirth - thereby empowering women to have the kind of birth experience they seek for themselves and their babies. She has enjoyed working with a variety of clients including: teens, Hypnobirthing clients, Bradley couples, Lamaze students, Birthing from Within students, multiples, high-risk pregnancies, water-births, and cesarean-births, and both unmedicated "natural" births, and those who opt to have epidurals. Colleen's goal has always been to support a woman completely during labor...both emotionally and physically using compassion, encouragement, and even a touch of humor! Colleen and her husband Chuck, have three children...Emily (5), Alex (4), Celine (1 year) and they expecting their fourth child Bryce, in March 2004. Having been a USAF military family once stationed at DMAFB here in Tucson; she holds a soft spot in her heart for the families serving in the military. She is always looking to help those moms-to-be whose spouse's may be deployed or TDY and may risk delivering alone...... In 1998, as her daughter Colleen delivered at the Women's Birthing Center, and Jill was allowed to "catch" her first grandchild Emily, she fell in love with the idea of being able to help women give birth. In 2002, Colleen delivered her second grandchild Celine, in a waterbirth at the Birth Center, and Jill was in attendance once again. As Jill's own personal childbirth experience as a teen was fraught with fear and being alone; she now learned about the joy and awe...and empowerment of how a birth CAN be when a woman is supported throughout her labor. This ultimately led Jill and her daughter Colleen, down the path of becoming certified Doulas. Jill has worked with all of the local hospitals and the Birth Center here in Tucson, and has had the opportunity to work alongside multiple births, C-births, physically challeged mothers, births from natural to epidurals, pitocin and so on. She is there to support whatever kind of birth a woman wants or needs. Her goal is that the woman, when looking back on her birth experience, can think of it as a joyfull and fulfilling one, regardless of the kind of birth it was. Jill also works as the Central Coordinator of Desert Doula Birth & Postpartum Services. in 2004, she became a Certified Childbirth Educator by CAPPA, and is also looking forward to becoming a Certified Breasfeeding Counselor in May 2004.
