Mick (M), Cassie (F), Natasha (F), and Teacup (M)

Mick -- 5 year old, 19 lb black and white domestic long hair. He likes snuggling under the covers in the morning, playing hockey with my alarm clock and stealing beer. He pees in terror when it thunders. Nicknames: Mickleberry Ham and NO!!!

Cassie -- 4 year old, 9 lb solid grey domestic shorthair. She's a proximity cat who is slowly learning to be friendlier and very, very occasionally will sit with me for 10 minutes or so before running away. She's afraid of everything, but only pees in appropriate places. Cassie loves to chase bugs and ghosts. Nicknames: Mouse and Pokey Nose.

Natasha -- 4 month old, 5 lb marmalade tabby domestic shorthair. Natasha is so named because of the nicknames her siblings were given by a friend--Moose & Squirrel; when she was brought to my doorstep by friends who had found her abandoned in their neighborhood, it just seemed appropriate. But there will be no Boris for the foreseeable future. Natasha is 5 pounds of high-speed mischief and delights in upending the furniture with her ballisticatting. She also enjoys catloafing under/on my feet while I'm cooking and has the most beautiful brown eyes I've ever seen. Nicknames: Tasha and Punkin'haid.

The other pictured kitty is Teacup, my sister's kitten. He's 9 months old and has bellydots. He also purrs at the drop of a hat and loves to snuggle up under my chin. Needless to say, I'm trying to justify stealing him all for my own!

Maya (F) and Missy (F) - Missy is our sock monster. Pulls dirty socks from the hamper, hauls them into the living room, throaty meow, and then tosses them into the air, as though she had brought a field mouse into the house. She never sleeps demurely. She splays on her back.

Maya shows no fear of water, and will cry to get into the bathroom while someone is taking a shower. She will dance around the edge of the tub and peek in to see what you are up to. She does not object if you pull her in with you. Still and all, she is the daintier of the two and will sit sweetly with her tail tucked around her front paws. She catloafs well.

Both cats "love blink" us and will respond in kind if we love blink first.

Sugar (F) - Beloved tortie; departed and never forgotten.

Cat Lewis (Our dear friend Cat has herself crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We know she is keeping loving watch over all our departed animal friends.)

Five (M) [link currently inactive] - Five has the Iron Cat song to the tune of "Iron Man" It pretty much ends up being "He is iron cat" with a bunch of meows on the end so it scans right

Camilla (F) - "Her name is from a Roman word meaning "servant in the temple." It's not a reference to Camilla Parker-Bowles. We're ancient Roman enthusiasts and wanted a Roman name that sounded pleasant. She is also referred to as Camilla the Killa, Camilla Gorilla and Camilla the Thrilla. Oh, and we have endless fun pretending we've just discovered her tail is missing and going around the house looking for it. OK, we're easily amused."

Diva

Henry (M) is my oldest cat, born in 1991. I found him in a pet store called Capitola Critters. He is a classic splotched tabby, with marbled black stripes on a brown background, apricot accents, and white paws, chest and belly. He looks (and acts) like Cary Grant in a brown tabby tuxedo – charming, handsome, immaculately groomed, witty, and goofy. He’s friendly to everyone but will only sit on me, and only when I’m busy doing something else. He adores having his belly rubbed. I call him Henri, Hank, Hankus Pankus, and Henry Hotfoot.

When Henry was about a year old, he adopted Critter (F), whose catnapping can be read about on the Cat Stories page (including the Critter Hostage Photo story). She was a cranky little shiny black cat with green-gold eyes and a tiny white locket on her chest. She had Siamese lines and a matching voice. We called her Miss Critterfish, Critterbug, and Stain. [Miss Critter went out one day and did not come back; the TT Cat folk hope she has found a happy home for herself, either here or across the Rainbow Bridge. Be at peace, Critter.]

Taz (M) was a large, all-black (including his gums) mellow fellow. He liked to sleep with and on people, and he wasn't picky. He adopted and nurtured tiny kittens. He “belonged” to people who lived up the street, and was generally loved by everyone on the block, but when he was about two years old he decided he liked our house best and was officially ours for about six or seven years. Taz had a speech impediment and could not pronounce the letter “m”. You can imagine what a handicap this was for a cat. It is hard to come up with a nickname for a black cat that someone else has already named “Taz” and who walks around going “Ow. Ow. Ow.” [Taz has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge, after successfully helping to raise the kitten, Goldie. Be at peace, Taz.]

Jesse (M) (aka Darling Jesse) is a big foofy pure white longhair with a black “cap” on his head and one blue and one green eye. He looks like a creampuff (and he is) but he wants to be a tough guy, so he went out and got a scar on his otherwise perfect nose. Jesse can climb ladders, and will eagerly go up any ladder, anywhere, even if it doesn’t go anywhere. I call him Jesse the Tail, Messy Jesse, That White Thing, and El Blanco.

Goldie (F) - an orange tabby, but with hardly any stripes, who grew into a longhair. She was found with her brother and sister in the seat of an abandoned truck the night before a big blizzard struck. She was adopted in a bar late at night on St. Patrick’s Day, when she was about ten days old, and raised by hand (and bottle). She was the smartest, most beautiful kitten in the history of the species, of course, and the TT Cat people watched eagerly day by day as she grew up. She was trained in proper cat behavior by her Unka Taz, who then departed the world, his work complete.

Don Keehotay

[Waiting for link to photos!] - His name is Butter, short for Butterfinger because his eyes are exactly the color of the inside of a Butterfinger bar. His original owner gave him that name, but I'm happy with it. He's only been here for a day but he already seems to be accepting it as home. He has NOT been introduced to my dogs yet (they stay downstairs, he stays upstairs). Not sure how that will go, although I'm pretty confident that my dogs are not the cat-killing type. Of course, they will be carefully supervised until I'm sure.

Fraro

Babachen (F) - Baba has big round eyes and is climbing all over me and is licking me to death, with kitty food breath. :) She is a tiny but warm quiveringly purring bundle of sweetness, and you cannot help but laugh and smile as you hold her. But she is no pushover, you can see that in her eyes!

Matisse (M) - Matisse's Toy of the Day is most definitely the bathtub faucet. Hey! Let me catch you, drip of water! *lunge* *drip* Hey! Why did you drip on me! Let me try to bat at you, drip of water! *drip* Hunh? My paw is wet. This is wrong. Let me drop my paw into the water. Hey! It's more wet! *much licking of paw ensues* I'm thirsty. Let me drink this water. *lick lick lick lick at surface of bathwater* Hey! It's that drip again! Hmph. Didn't I already attack it?!?! Let me try to headbutt it. *much futile headmoving ensues* *shaking of head* *look of shock* My head is wet! I don't like this faucet. *hunkers down* *cocks head at dripping faucet*

Most are no longer our personal cats but we have visiting rights. When we visit and the fellows hear our voices they come running, talking up a storm. I guess we’re their extended family.

The Bomber - This is the Blonde Bombshell, known in the family as The Bomber, as a kitten. He’s now the spoiled darling of two teenaged ladies who treat him as a visiting Prince. He’s Fox’s brother as are all the rest of the Back Deck Boys.

The Ghost Napping - This is Ghost, the wariest of the crew. It took forever to tame him enough to go live with the older retired couple who he now owns. For such a jumpy kitty, he talks a lot.

The cats [page is currently inaccessible] - The cats in the group photo are (L to R): Ginger (long hair, orange female, 4 yrs old), Buckley (male seal mitted Ragdoll, 9 mos. old) and Cleo (black female, 2 yrs old).

Ginger is the alpha cat -- she only has 1 tooth left, but she can still intimidate the other two. She loves people, but doesn't want to be friends with other cats. I adopted her from the vet tech's next door neighbor, who wanted to find another home for her because she was terrorizing their dog. :)

We adopted Cleo from a shelter when she was about 8 wks. My daughter picked her out. She's a bit leery of people, except for me. As soon as I sit down on the couch, she's right next to me. She also likes to sleep on my feet at night. She and Buckley are almost like siblings.

Buckley is the only cat I've ever bought from a breeder (Ragdoll). He has a slight deformation of the vertebrae (?) in his tail; it was more obvious when he was much younger, but his tail still goes off to one side. The breeder named him "Kinky," but I thought better of that! Buckley purrs as soon as you touch him -- the loudest purr I've heard. He likes being held for a limited amount of time, but loves getting right in my face in bed and licking my nose. At 9 mos., he's already twice the size and weight of Ginger and Cleo. He and Cleo love grooming each other and going "psycho" together, usually just as I'm going to sleep.

The Three - Loki Squish Bugslayer (Black Tom), AKA "Squish"; Frida Khalico (Ginger Tabby/Calico), AKA "Hairball"; Ivy Brains (Diluted Calico) AKA "Shithead" - in these photos, The Three are engaging in the Team Sleeping Competition

I have seen all three of them coordinate a Dog Baiting. It goes like this... wait for the dog to follow me into the computer room. Dog falls asleep. I walk to the living room. Cats take up strategic spots in the hallway. Dog wakes up. Realizes that Alpha! Is! Not! Here! and barrels down the hallway... smack into the black cat. Loki cat swings, connects. Dog yelps. dog turns around. Frida swings, dog spins, Shithead puffs up to gargantuan proportions and spits at the dog. Dog gives up. Dog sits. Dog whines for her Alpha to come resuce her from the hallway... Cats sit calmly, contemplating the dog's captivity and meditating on the meaning of "Sneaky."

Thorkitti Dragonsson (departed), Chinese Communist Cat (departed), Meego, Dagesh, Buster Peevish, Ariel, Pyewacket (If link doesn't work, go to main domain and search for Cathy MG in User list)

They are, in order of arrival:

Dagesh, female, rescued cat abandoned at a vet clinic's, either Bengal or Egyptian Mau or some cross w/ one or the other. She's about 10 now, was about 2 when we got her. Loves kittens, is (mostly) fine w/ grown cats she accepted as kittens, but we can't add an adult cat while we have her.

Buster Peevish, male, black and white fluffy cat w/ a black nose & green eyes, showed up on our doorstep one cold night. He's about 7 and was about 10 weeks old when he showed up. He's our most personable cat, and the smartest. Dagesh beats up on him sometimes, hence my qualifier above. He likes to grab your hand & bite & lick it, which sometimes hurts but is never intended to wound. He's also our biggest cat.

Meego, male, about 6, orange tabby. He's a Pound Purry. We got him after our Maine Coon (Thorkitti Dragonsson) died of a weird menigitis. He's our Short Bus Kitty. Very sweet, not bright at all, quite a scaredy cat. Of course, he's the one who is sick right now. All the other kitties love him, too.

Pyewacket, female, calico, also a Pound Purry. She's almost 4. Very uncuddly, but squeaks and chitters at you when you come home & wants to be right.by.your.side for a while. She's a little brat, as calicos often are. Very cute, though! We got her after my silver mackeral tabby, Chinese Communist Cat (don't blame me, my exDUH named her-b/c she kept talking about Mao) died while I was pregnant w/ my daughter.

We don't 'replace' our cats, but I do look at it as if we have space for another rescue if we lose one.

Arthur and Sadie - Sadie, my tortie is a graduate of the Treehouse Finishing School for Cats, in Chicago. It's a no-kill, cageless shelter. I went through my interview, and was approved for a cat. So I went to the cat room. And how to choose! There were cats everywhere: sleepy cats, fat cats, fuzzy cats, all kinds of cats. So I sat on the floor and was petting a little kitty on the head, and along comes this small brown thing. She snuck right under my arm & plopped herself down in my lap. And she looked up at me and said "Get me outta here!" And that's how my lil' Sadie came home with me.

I've checked out the gallery before, but resisted the siren song of the thread until now. Getting a kitten will do that to you -- I need a place to gush over all of Claudia's antics.

We have 2 boys mature, dignified male cats, and the newest edition, Miss Claudia. Both the boys are neutered pound cats, while Claudia was left on DH's boss's front porch over the Christmas holidays. Boss has large dogs so she couldn't keep her and asked if we were interested. Against my better judgement, the kids talked me into "just taking a look" at her. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The Big Boys - The eldest male, a 12-yo (all ages approximate) tuxedo, is Toby. He is the most un-catlike of cats, except he is blessed with abundant cattitude. He does not like the usual cat treats, although he will deign to accept the occasional shrimp even if it is contemptible Human Food. Catnip puts him to sleep and he Does Not Play With Toys. He seldom grooms himself, except that his face and hands are spotless. He will accept petting with good grace, though he prefers to sleep on the floor -- and certainly NEVER on the waterbed! But when you pull out the brush, he throws all dignity to the wind and happily abases himself for even 10 seconds of stroking with the wire-bristle side. Claudia ranks even below humans, my DD excepted, as far as he is concerned.

Buddy is the younger of the fellas at 6-ish, and he came to us missing one hind leg. The folks at the pound had no idea why he wasn't just euthanized, so we figure maybe one of the vets wanted to practice his amputation technique and decided to save him. While they were at it, it seems that they took half his brain, too. Buddy is, well, he'd be a natural blonde if he were human. Sweet, good-natured (as long as you don't touch his spot), and dumb as a post. (Just ask Toby.) Not to mention the OCD. If you so much as touch him, he Must Wash Now and you can hear him mumbling to himself, "dirty, Dirty, DIRTY!" Sometimes just to torture him, we wait until he finishes and then touch him. The waterbed is his very favorite place to sleep, especially if he can perch on your chest while you're on it. This makes breathing difficult, but one must make certain sacrifices for one's feline masters.

Unlike Toby, Buddy has never forgotten that he was a street rat and will eat just about anything, as long as it doesn't have pepper on it. When he was new to our family, we had to learn this the hard way. One night we brought in the groceries and left some of the bags of non-fridge stuff on the floor until later. Out from the kitchen comes the mighty hunter dragging a loaf of french bread considerably bigger than he was! He's gotten over his bread cravings now, but we have always held the theory that he lived near a fast food place and learned that good things come from inside bread. Food is good, toys are good and catnip is wonderful! Buddy does like his kitty drugs.

Last, but never least is Claudia, Mistress of the Universe, Queen of all She Surveys. We thought with two mature males, we'd be better off with a young female, because she would know her place in the pecking order. We were right on that, but not in the way we thought. In another life, Claudia was Dame Judy Dench, she of the beautiful smile and steely will. When she wants attention, she will have it NOW, even if she has to wake you up or bite your nose to get it. When she is done, she will bite you again to let you know it's time to stop. And the red laser belongs only to her, and you forget that at your peril.

Those are my cats.
