Texas Southern Women Proclaimed Outstanding Team at Prairie View Relays

PRAIRIE VIEW, TEX. - The Prairie View A&M men and the Texas Southern women won the relay competition at the 72nd running of the annual Prairie View Relays held here at Blackshear Field.

In capturing the men's crown, the Prairie View Panthers won seven of ten running events. Prairie View's relay teams finished first in the 400 meters (40.18), 1600 meters (3:14.78), distance medley (11:11.96) and the sprint medley (3:33.59). In the field events Prairie View captured five of seven top finishes.

"We didn't perform as well as I know we can," said Prairie View head coach Hoover Wright. "We'll use this as a measuring guide for getting us to where we need to be. Although we got a lot of top finishes, our times aren't where they'll need to be when we get to the conference meet in a month."

The Texas Southern Lady Tigers captured the women's division with first place finishes in the 3200 meter run (10:29.62) and distance medley (14:07.10), a second place finish in the 400 meter and the third spot in the sprint medley (4:14.09).

Fort Bend Austin led the boys high school division with 153 points. Following Fort Bend Austin in the final high school boys division was M.B. Smiley (147 points), Aldine (117) and Willowridge (91 points).
