Copy of portion of pages for 1860 US Census, Cass County, Illinois, Page 48 showing Elijah Davis and family. Elijah Davis and family was still living in Cass County, Illinois in 1860. Sometime after 1860, most likely after or during civil war he and Elizabeth Shoopman and perhaps others of family moved to Cass Co, Missouri from Cass County, Illinois. James P and John Barton Davis and their brother in law Nelson Kimbrell and sister moved to Texas through Cass County, Missouri in the winter of 1878 to 1879 staying over in Peculiar or Old Peculiar, Missouri for about three months. We do not know if Elijah and Elizabeth and others were allready living in Peculiar, Missouri then. The 1880 Census for Cass Co, MO is unreadable so I could not use that as a reference. The 1870 Census for Cass Co, MO is partly unreadable but they also did not appear on it. Nor did the Kimbrells for 1870 and unknown for the 1880 as it is of no usefull value because it is so faded and damaged it is unreadable for the majority of it. Ancestry.com has most of the census for all years available and theirs does include Elijah Davis in Cass Co., MO in 1880 in Old Peculiar district.
