Welcome to Saint Petersburg!

A century - and the city young,
Gem of the Northern world, amazing,
From gloomy wood and swamp upsprung,
Had risen, in pride and splendor blazing.

Alexander Pushkin "The Bronze Horseman" Translated by Oliver Elton

St. Petersburg is my native city where I was born and am living now. In 2003 it will be 300 years old. It was founded by tsar Peter First to have for Russia "window at Europe".
It's a very beautiful town as are speaking "Northern Venetsiya". It's located on northwest of Russia at the place where the wide and deep river Neva goes in the Baltic sea. Also it's named the cultural capital of Russia. It is famuos for many museums, theaters, beautiful buildings, cathedrals, bridges, various monuments of architecture. The main sight of our city is Hermitage. I am working in the very center of St. Petersburg near Nevsky avenue and Griboedov's canal. Every day I enjoy its beauty.
