Principal Job Responsibilities:

�       Conducting site surveys to determine infrastructure requirements for purposes of providing project planning inputs for Internet and Data network expansion project as assigned by the Project Manager.

�       Implement Internet and Data Networks in liaison with peer engineers in National Network Planning for the provision and delivery of leased line and dial-up services as required by customers.

�       Administering the Internet Information services such as the DNS Servers, Mail Servers, Billing Servers, Authentication Servers, and Web Servers etc.

�       Managing the physical Internet and /or Data networks through the Network Management Systems� (NMSs), and interpreting the data for any necessary reconfiguration.

�       Conducting router configurations and port management as when required and implementation of� network security.

�       Assisting the project Manager in preparing capital development orders for new equipment to be purchased, including associated services.

�       Setting up Internet and Intranet solutions as required by customers.

�       Coordinating with other network administrators and the planning and maintenance of routing tables, and managing any scheduled down-times and fault-resolution processes.

�       Liaison with international bodies such as IANA, ISOC etc on issues pertaining to Top Level Domains, IP number assignments and general governance of the Internet.

�       Running a 24hr help desk, which will also serve as an Internet & Data Services front Offices for purposes of placing service requests.

Financial Responsibilities:

1)       To assist Project Manager in providing inputs to Manager Internet and Data Services for compilation of a realistic budget forecast for business expansion.

2)       To demonstrate an appreciation of the impact of Internet and Data Services in monetary terms e.g. delays in resolving service outage.

� Duties�������

�         Installation, Commission and Maintenance of transmission and data systems such as Newbridge and Alcatel.

�         Configuring Radio and Cable MODEMS, and other circuit terminating equipment for high and low speed data circuits.

�         Preparing and maintaining an accurate daily log of faults and installations, and performing routine checks on the Network trouble Tickets through the use of Newbridge Network Management Centre and taking subsequent corrective measures.

�         Co-ordinating with regional and international PTTs as well as centres countrywide during installations, operation and maintenance of local and international data circuits.

�         Liasing with other external departments in restoring cable, fibre, microwave and VSAT link failure.

�       Testing & monitoring of low and high speed leased data circuits.

�       Installation and maintenance of Frame Relay & Circuit switched data circuits on the Newbridge System.

�       Troubleshooting Local Area and Wide Area Networks (LANs & WANs).

�       Providing and maintaining Internet backbone links and links to ISPs.

�       Configuration and maintenance of data terminal equipment such as routers, workstations and terminals.

�       Provision and maintenance of data services such as: Frame relay, HDSL, ADSL, SDSL, Packet switching and circuit switching.

�       Maintenance of Packet Switching Exchanges (PSX), Network Maintenance Unit (NMU), Network Maintenance Centre (NMC), Billing & Collection Centre (BCC), Validation & Information Point (VIP) PC Related End Terminal (PCRET).

�       Implementing Packet switching technologies, This Includes creation, connection, maintenance and disconnection of X.25, X.28, X.32, X.29, X.75 customers, and Billing & collection of charging tickets.

�       Administration of Major Packet Switching Network In Zimbabwe (ZIMNET).

�       Maintenance of Frequency & Time Division Multiplexing systems.

�       Software and Hardware Installations, also including upgrades on Exchanges and Network Management Systems.
