Inline Sixes are cool man
Everybody's got to start somewhere, and here is my first attemt at creating on the internet.  I guess I should give you some reason why I started at all, and give you some incentive to stay. I'm Hoping that pretty soon I'll be Upgrading this Page and adding some other pages that Detail My Eagles, Concord and whatever I may find of interest in the future. Hopefully I'll Know enough in a few weeks of messing with this to be able to Upgrade it without having to start from scratch. This is a learning process so bear with me!
You can find me on the Inlineres.Org BBoard as Trusty258, the Same goes for the AMC Forum.
I've had so much fun with these cars. I've taken them places where they really deserved to never have gotten out of with out the aid of a towstrap. I've got expeience with that too. For a car with one range and No lockers or posi or a normal locked transfer case, they will go into some scary places. I've been happy to say the least with the engines. The came from the factory making 200 foot pounds of torque at less than  2000 RPM. Throw in a freer flowing exhaust, a better intake, slightly warmer cam, and HEI. I should be able to push 250 or more foot pounds of torque.  I'm hoping to do some mods to one of my Eagles when the motor comes out for a general rebuild and a new automatic. Most notably 10 to one comp, a cam, header and better intake and carb. BBDs are fine carburators but leave a little to be desired . They flow somewhere around 220 CFM so the primary on a Holley500 ought to be just a smidge better. It'll have a little more grunt after that.

Sad, I suppose that two thirds of the cars that I have are older than I am. But something can be said for the strength of the design and the fact that they've lasted for twenty plus years in the rustbelt. The Engine in the 81 (Yes its the venrerable 258 inline six)  has never been rebuilt. 175,xxx miles and running strong. Pulls hard-as hard as a motor running 2.73 gears can be expected to and I dont want to hear any nasty comments from any one that has more than a hundred cubic inches on me or has a huge MPI throttle body and a Chip, -not fair!  Nobody makes 350 cubic inch inlines sixes for auto use! Aint that a bummer!
In any case the 81 is a strong car. I can't imagine what it would be capable of if I had a low range case in it. and 225s, an inch of lift, brush guard, and a winch. Now I know all of you out there with Jeeps and jacked up trucks are going "yeah right buddy..."
But guys -ITS A CAR- There is only just so far that I can go with thess things. I know that I'm never going to put 44 inch boggers on it. Id be happy to get 30x9s on this thing. And once I get to 235s or 30s Im going to get a Jeep.I promise.
Well, Thats it, My second Eagle.  I know the quality of the picture is horrible.(I'm workin' on it!) I guess you could say that was "Trusty". Other than a couple of Shock absorbers and a spring mount early on I barely did a thing to it. Other than Oil leaks out of the valvecover (all 80s AMCs and Jeeps had this Problem) the motor ran flawlessly. That got fixed soon after I got a hold of it.  I think that Of the three that I've had the pleasure of running, I enjoyed this one the most. After some 4wheeling adventures on some old logging roads, gravel pits and big sandpiles I've decided that it needs A transfer case upgrade. It's not that the old one is bad, I would really like to have a low range.   And a locked rear differential. I might just weld the thing. But I know that I won't be able to wheel very hard with it, because the frame is getting kinda soft. When it gets so bad that I get scared, the good stuff is coming out and going into the parts car. I have no Idea what to do from there. Proabably just get a bunch of quarter inch steel and borrow a buddy's welder and see if I can't fix the poor thing. Fix the rockers and the unibody. It's a beater so it doesnt need to be pretty, just solid. The motor runs great and the transmission is solid, but it needs springs, and some general tweakin' for more offroad based purposes. Plans call for a big Jeep case, like a NP219 or 229 new oilpan, some structural welding, removal of the interior, and taller front coils and a spooled rear diff.
I found out that by removing the front fender flares that I can squeeze 235s underneath the front- and with 2 inch blocks out back I'll clear em just fine.Well, that and some other minor adjustments.
