Loving, Ben

The sixteenth time she'd read his letter.

His tender words like music spoke.

Again her heart was filled with love,

for this is what he wrote;

With a saddened heart,

once again I lift my pen.

The miles still distance my lips from yours,

as longing drifts within.

While the time that comes between us,

brings misty tears of crimson red,

I beg you'll not forget me,

but hunger more instead.

The sweetest flower in all this land,

simply pales to your smiling face.

The sun is never bright or shining,

thus your picture takes its place.

I dream of you each night my darling.

I keep you close beside me then.

I swear my love shall never leave you.

and signed it simply "Loving, Ben".

Alone, she placed the letter back in its envelope,

and gently hung it on the tree.

Her eyes upon the angel above,

with painted smile for all to see.

Her heavy sigh filled the empty room,

and her eyes now flowed with tears.

Celebrating this special Christmas event,

that's lasted sixteen years.
