MY WORLD, MY WAY
SILKK THE SHOCKER
No Limit/Virgin Records
Ranking 3.9/10

No Limit Records continues to be turnin' em out. Silkk the Shocker returns to the game as the most recent emcee to release a No Limit produced album. This being my first taste of Silkk as a solo artist, I wasn't sure what to expect. He'd impressed in his work with his brothers, Master P and C-Murder, in their group known as TRU. In fact, Silkk's lyrical skillz might be impressive, but I didn't notice because the beats were weak. The mix of synthetic sound and beats straight out of an internet drum program, dissapoint. The producers comprise Myke Diesel, XL, Suga Bear, and Carlos Stephens. The same old, unoriginal producers. No Limit needs to fix up its production before all its skilled artists take the same route as former No Limit artist, Mystikal, and leave for greener pastures.

The album did have some bright spots. "I Wish" was an amazing track featuring Snoop Dogg. Watch for it to be a single. There's no way, they could pass this one up as a single! "It's Cool" surprised me. I couldn't stand the video, but the beat off the cd is really infectious. "Pop Lockin'" featuring Snoop Dogg and "Funny Guy" were also decent.

Overall, I was disappointed with this album. After hearing Master P's last album, I thought maybe No Limit had awoken and taken steps to improve their distinguishably unchanging style. This album killed any of those hopes. The beats were weak. There were a lot of R&B'sh tracks that just didn't appeal to me. Silkk's vocal skillz however did impress. I just hope that there's a greener future in store!
