Da Brat
Limelite, Luv and Niteclubz
Da Brat
So So Def / Arista / BMG
Ranking 2.75/5

After 11 years in the rap game, Da Brat has lost the anger that helped propel her career. Fortunately for her, she's adapted and on Limelite, Luv and Niteclubz she displays a feistiness able to keep this album together.

This So So Def artist gets help from Jermaine Dupri & L.T. Hutton as they produce all the songs on the album. Unfortunately, some of the more slower beats on the album force Da Brat to change her style, making her lyrics on songs such as 'Who I Am' seemingly empty and boring.

'Gushy Wushy' is a high-paced club banger and suits Da Brat's fast flow better than any other song. The first single, 'In Love Wit Chu' has an addictive "love is in the air" summertime feel to it as featured R&B artist Cherish lays down a beautiful chorus. 'Get Somebody' features a chorus by Keisha Jackson that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head. The JD produced 'World Premiere' is the staple collaboration as JD, Q Da Kid and M.O.P. make appearances.

At only 11 songs, I expected Limelite, Luv and Niteclubz to be packed full top-notch joints. Unfortunately most songs were only mediocre bass-pumping club animated tracks. Regardless, Da Brat's high speed flow, witty lyrics and the well-chosen featured artists (Cee Lo, Mariah Carey, Anthony Hamilton) manage to make Limelite, Luv and Niteclubz enjoyable for her fans, but not worthy of amazing status.
