CHAPTER SIX:
****
THE REGENT (Later that evening)

Isis played back the events that occured that day as she and the others dipped their
feet into the pool.
"I guess we were doing well for beginners." Elaine shrugged as she swirled around
the water. "What I mean was that at least we didn't foul up or anything like that."
	"Yeah, you're right." Lilliane nodded.
"No, it's not enough." Makoto muttered. "The Council will be very disappointed if we
don't work good enough."
"She's right." Kristine nodded. "Isis, what are you doing?" She faced the redhead
when she stood up and walked towards the starting line of the pool.
"Going to swim." She replied absentmindedly before diving into the water.
"Oh, crud." Lilliane swore under her breath. "Why does she always do that every time we
talk about work."
"Talking about work tends to stress all of us." Elaine shrugged. "I think it is a
good way to take out the stress by doing some other thing."
	"I'm hungry," Kristine yawned.
"Ah, my spoken language." A male voice interrupted. All of them turned around except for
Isis.
"Good evening, Mr. Maxwell." They all greeted him.
"Hi, I thought that you might want company." He grinned, showing them a bag full of
Chinese take-out.
"Why won't you ask General Myers to join us?" Quatre said as he, Trowa and Wufei
entered carrying beer.
"She won't stop until she does twenty laps." Makoto shook her head. "We have to wait
awhile. She's already in her third."
"Beer!!!" Lilliane glomped on the boxes, only to be peeled away from it by Elaine.
"No, beer." Elaine snapped at her. "You lost the bet, remember?"
"Oh, crap." She pouted and sat cross-legged on the floor. "It wasn't really a bet.
You all tricked me into it."
"Nope!" Makoto grinned. "You failed to clean your section and we made bets about
our vices."
	"No fair!" Lilliane shrieked.
"Keep it down, will you?" Some water were sprayed on her, sending her toppling
backwards.
"Isis, you stopped." Kristine gaped at her. 'She never used to stop before.'
"Her voice rang in the pool." Isis waded back to the edge.
"You're not going to continue?" Makoto handed her a towel when she climbed up.
"No, I lost my concentration." Isis shrugged, placing the towel on her shoulders.
"No beer for you." Elaine snapped at Isis when she reached down to get one.
"Why not?" She paused in the act. "I knew I did not lose the bet."
"You didn't but you're not allowed to drink beer as long there are three of us who
don't agree with you drinking beer." Elaine pointed out.
"Do grow up." Isis sighed. She grabbed two cans of beer and tossed the other one to
Kristine. "I'm not some kid that needs to be take care of."
"Is that so?" Elaine grinned evilly along with Makoto and Lilliane.
"Uh... what are they planning to do?" Quatre faced Kristine, pointing at the three
Mediators who were advancing on Isis.
"Throw her into the pool." Kristine chugged down on the beer just as Isis' shriek
pierced the air.
"That gotta hurt." Duo winced at the sight.
"You idiots!!!" Isis shrieked as soon as she broke through the surface. "That was
painful."
"More painful than this?" Elaine smirked, extending a hand.
"Hold it! Both of you." Kristine stepped in between the two of them. "Projecting our
frustrations into our powers will not solve anything."
"Excuse me?" Duo blinked. "Just what in the hell were you talking about?"
"Oh, fuck." Kristine swore and snapped her fingers. The four Preventers immediately
stiffened and a blank look came to their faces.
"You're going to blank them out at that part, aren't you?" Makoto stated as she helped
Isis out of the pool.
"I have to." Kristine closed her eyes and frowned a bit as a dark aura emerged from
within her. "Or else, we're going to be in big trouble."
The dark aura swirled around the four men like a shadow and dissipated in a second.
"Wha-- what?" Duo blinked as soon as the aura disappeared.
"You want some beer?" Lilliane winked at him, throwing him a can, just as Isis pushed
Elaine and Makoto into the pool.
"Hey, what did you do that for?!" Makoto demanded as soon as she surfaced.
"That was for last week." Isis smirked. She settled down and reached for another beer.
Only to find a pair of emerald green eyes staring at her.
"What?" She snapped at Trowa. Trowa blinked back, then shook his head clear.
"You all right?" Quatre asked him, his blue eyes full of concern. Trowa nodded before
sitting beside Wufei who was seated on the edge of the pool.
"So, Duo." Kristine faced the American Preventer. "Just how many years have you been
in the Preventers?"
"I dunno." He shrugged. "Probably two. It was a few months after Mariemara's battle
when I joined."
"How about you guys?" He returned.
"I've been in the Mediators for nearly sixteen years." Kristine took a sip of the beer
before grabbing a steamed dumpling.
"The same for me." Makoto pulled herself out of the pool.
"Sixteen years, two months and fifteen days." Lilliane checked her watch.
"Seventeen years, I think." Elaine wadded in the pool.
"Seventeen years, eleven months and twenty three days." Isis replied numbly. Elaine and
Makoto exchanged looks before gaping at Isis.
"Oh, shit." Lilliane nearly dropped her can of beer. "It's nearly your twentieth
birthday."
"Yeah! And we haven't done anything about it." Kristine nodded furiously. "What do you
think guys? We still have about a week. Do you think we should give her a grand party?" She faced
her fellow Mediators.
"Don't even think about it?" Isis took a drink. "I'm going to have a three-weeks leave
as a present already, and I don't want to go to any formal party just for my birthday."
"Aw, come on, Isis." Don't be a sucker." Lilliane rolled her eyes. "It's going to be
fun. We promise you."
"No, thank. If you want a formal party, do that on Elaine's birthday. I'm not in for
any bullshit black tie and shit parties." Isis snorted unladylike.
"Wait a minute there." Duo interrupted. "Are you telling us that it's nearly her
birthday?"
"Yup!" Kristine nodded. "You see, we entered the Mediators exactly on our second
birthday and so our terms are counted for by age minus two years."
"So, what are you all going to do on her twentieth birthday?" Quatre asked, an idea
forming in his mind.
"Go on a vacation." Isis shrugged. "I'm going to Siberia for it."
	"Ugh. That's cold." Lilliane shivered.
"I know but it's home." Isis sat down on the edge of the pool. "It's been awhile since
I visited my grandparents there."
"You're not planning on going to L16?" Elaine handed her a plate full of food. "I just
thought that you would want to spend your vacation with your father."
"I'm going there before I head to Siberia." Isis wrinkled her nose at the smell of the
onions. "My brothers are going to pound me into pulp if I don't visit them first."
"How are your brothers anyway?" Makoto sat beside her.
"Difficult." Isis took a bite of the shrimp dumpling. "How about you? How is Miko and
Miji?"
"Miji is finishing on his high school. Miko is studying for his exams. Both are
tolerable." Makoto glanced at Lilliane. "By the way, Lilliane, your brother does have a
girlfriend, am I right?"
"Yeah, Robert and Frances." Lilliane nodded. "I heard from Adeline that they're dating
almost every night."
"That's my sister. The reporter." Elaine grinned. "Hey, Kris! Do you want to have a
date? My brother's available if you want to know."
"Ugh. I'm not that desprate." Kristine grimaced.
"I have twenty nine sisters." Quatre said out of the blue.
Isis nearly chocked on her dumpling and Lilliane spitted out her beer.
"No way." Makoto gaped at him as Elaine lost her grip on her beer. It was lucky for her
that Duo was able to catch it before it hit the floor.
"Well... it could be possible." Kristine frowned slightly. "After all they were test
tube babies."
Duo smirked slightly and handed Elaine her beer when all of a sudden, there was a rather
shrill and insistent beeping from their stuff.
"Whoa." Lilliane muttered. She pushed aside all their clothes, revealing a laptop. She
pressed the power button and a face immediately illuminated.
"Colonel Kenneth!" A young blue- black haired girl nearly yelled into her face.
"Someone got into the base and got the files!!"
"What!!!" Isis jerked. She pushed Lilliane aside and stared hard at the girl. "What in
the hell happened, Geril?"
"I don't know, General." Lieutenant Geril swallowed. "We were all in the meeting hall
having a conference when all of a sudden, the sirens went off."
"You idiots!" She yelled. "Don't you know the importance of those files?! Get Jerkins
now!"
"Yes, General." The girl stammered before rushing off screen.
"What's going on?" Duo asked, facing the now- serious Elaine.
"Someone from outside managed to get their hands on some of the files that we were
protecting in the base." Elaine icily retorted. "If those files get into the wrong hands,
this dimension and the other dimensions will be in for a terrible disaster."
	"Why? What's in those files?"
	"Trans- dimensional blueprints."
