JUSTIN MURPHY PIC OF THE
YEAR

MURPH - A Rugby League Hero.

He might be built like a whippet hamster  but he runs like one too (though not on all fours) but Murph has came, saw and still conquering in the great game 'Rugby League". Justin Murphy is now a French Rugby League Internatinoal after qualifying through residence.. He scroes  from a variety of positions: winger's tries in the corner, supporting long range breaks and maybe most notably from well timed kick chases. Justin Murphy is a lightning fast winger who is very strong  considering his  modest physique suggests he shouldn't be..

Murphy has played Rugby League around the world. 2000 made way for Justin Murphys debut in first Grade by playing his only game for the Canterbury Bulldogs. 2001-2002 were the sepreme seasons in the NRL for the smurf. Representing the New Zealand Warriors. His constant brillant performances on the wing earned him a Grand Final Performance. In 2004 he was released and had a very short stint with the Widnes Vikings.

2005 he represented UTC in the French Championship before the Les Catalan Dragons were given the nod to be in the English Super League in 2006. That year  was Murph's best season. Not only was he the  prolific try scorer he also  celebrated another scrap book moment with a bottle of champagne  as he was unveiled in the engage Super League 2006 Dream Team. 2007-2008 were also solid years.

2007 saw Rugby League Triumpth as he was selected to represent France after qualifying under the Rugby League residency rules. Undoubtly his proudest moment of his Rugby League Career which saw him represent a nation. He also played a number of Rugby League World Cup games in 2008.

So why is a Justin Murphy a hero to me? Perhaps I admire sports athletes who climb their own Everest. Justin Murphy was a player who came , saw and conquered what was unlikely success in the most physical sport of all Rugby League. While people might think that what Murphy achieved is minor in the history of the game, Murphy's success showed that the 'little man' can be the 'big man' in his own right, and in the eyes of his fans. In my country that is  proud to promote the 'Kiwi Battler' image, it would seem an Australian turned French International  was the biggest 'Kiwi Battler' of them all.

Murph tributes.

I still have some fond memories of smurf from the old days especially that length of the field effort after a misdirected cloud skimmer from Knoddy in 03 and his try savers during 02 where he didn't score many but saved plenty
