The D did step up in the 2nd half but it was too late.
The Colts were extremely lucky to be in it down the stretch. The Patsies could have easily been ahead by 4 touchdowns at the half, and should have been.
Reasons why Manning was lousy today:
1) The first int was a bad throw and Manning knew it, a blow to the psyche right away in a scoring situation. Big momentum breaker, tough to overcome on the road. It wasn't just a turnover, it took a TD off the board.
2) Patsies took advantage with their offense having it's way all day long. This in turn once again put the offense in the position of carrying this team. After #1, that's tough to overcome.
3) Defensive pressure in Peyton's face all day long. This was huge for the Patsies. The Colts oline looked almost nonexistant, although the run blocking was working. Should have stayed with that early in the game, that's on Tom Moore.
4) All of the above contributed to Manning making one lousy decision after another. We saw the upside of Manning's liberty to audible the last few weeks, we again saw the downside of it today.
5) Manning seemed once again to fixate on Harrison in pressure situations, big mistake against the Patsies.
I'm a dedicated Colts fan and this season has been special. 28 other teams were at home watching today, so to move this deep in the post season was great. Unlike the Harbaugh years, this team has lots of upside. While the disappointment of this loss is hard to deal with, it would be a huge mistake to let Manning go. If not for Manning, the Colts would never have sniffed the AFC championship game. The window is still open. The major flaw on this team continues to be the defense. No pass rush whatsoever today. Rob Morris is a bust and needs to go. So does Bashir. Move Strickland to corner next year along with Harper, and ponder going to a 3/4 defense with some studs at linebacker.
That's all I've got people.
