Each Spring [usually in May]there is a service opportunity in the city of Hayward. They hold a community clean up which many cubs and boy scouts participate in. Each group is assigned a portion of the city to pick up trash. At the end of the day the city sponsors a barbeque. They give out free tee shirts and prizes.
It is normally held on a Saturday and begins at Weekes Park (Tampa Ave. side) at 8:00 am.

Several areas in Hayward are identified for this project. All participating units are asked to send a representative to Weekes Park no later than 8:00 am for the Safety Instruction and to pick up maps and supplies (gloves, neon vests and garbage bags). Packs & Troops can them go to their sites, pick up the litter (leaving it in bags on the curbs), and afterward return to Weekes Park to turn in the vests and take part in the FREE Barbecue for volunteers.

Also, the Health & Safety Fair goes on from 10:00 am through the afternoon. Prize drawings go on throughout the day at this event.

This is a wonderful community event, and a great way to earn service hours and get the word out that Scouting is alive and doing very well, thank you!
