SKY Meetings Friday 25th June (Week 9) !!

Additional 7.5% for all teachers.
Pay now or cut the workload !

MOTION
The 12% pay deal falls short of a just settlement. The intervention of Premier Carr into the IRC deliberations leads us to reject this offer. The IRC and State Government have gone one step further to undermine public education with the payment of additional monies for promotion positions to the private school sector.
Action points -
1. We call any reopened IRC case to consider a 7.5 % rise across all public school pay positions, not just promotion positions.
2. We call on NSWTF State Conference to consider a campaign of rolling strike action until the Commission considers a general increase.
3. We also call for indefinite bans on the following items in recognition that the Commission stated we have increased workload but then reduced our payment because of Carr¹s intervention
Annual School Reports
Primary Portfolio
ELLA, BST, SNAP, PWA, and Computer Skills Tests
4. We oppose any change to the working conditions of Corrective Services teachers.

IRC What's that?

So now is the time for state-wide meetings to reject the 12% offer. We need an offer that will attract new teachers, retain current graduates and ensure our disadvantaged schools are fully staffed.

That’s right disadvantaged schools. Not priority schools Mr Howard.
You change the name but you can't dismiss social circumstances.

Why Do We Say No Mass Testing ?

Check these links :-

Global Testing: from George Bush to John Howard

But don’t believe us.

It was a sticking point in the latest pay hearings at the IRC. Clause 18.3 of the last award (2001) was forced upon us by the Carr government. It mandates Federation agreement to ELLA, SNAP, BST and Computing Skills Testing.

This raises a key question.
Why is testing included in an industrial award of the conditions of a workforce sector?

Answer. Because in reality, mass centralised, standardised, testing is not about quality in education, it's about control. He who controls the standards of knowledge, controls knowledge ( and sorry about the sexist language but who’s the Director of Education? - yep back to bloke after a short lived equal opportunity experiment! Still, the $330,000pa helps the old super payout, what chaps?))
