Both of the pictures on this page are from the Marine Corps Historical Collection.  Neither has anything to do with Golf Company

I really liked this guy's helment.  He was a Marine with Mike 3/5, don't know when it was taken.  If anybody recognizes him let me know.

Humor was very important.  Even in Vietnam you had to have a life, friends, and some feeling of normalness.  We had to cope with a lot and something to laugh about always helped.  When we were on Oklahoma Hills a bunch of us were sitting around talking.  When Mike Fox (I think his name was Mike, his initial were M. E.  He rotated in December 1969)  said, "Let's pick a subject and talk about that.  Otherwise we'll just end up talking about who got killed."  We decided on - "OUR MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT"   We set there for a couple of hours spilling our guts about about dark days of being teenagers in "The World."

These Marines were with 1/4.  The caption under the picture said they had caught several gooks in the open and were making the best of it.

It's a pretty good shot of LAAWs in action.  There was a cap on each end connected by some wires. When the caps were taken off you could pull the front our of the back and the sight and trigger would pop up.  The trigger is the little thing by the sight that looks like a rubber door stop.  The second guy in line is aiming and has his fingers on the trigger and is getting ready to fire.  Once you had extended the LAAW you had to shoot it, I don't think they could be put back together.  Once shot the empty case was supposed to be destroyed.  If they weren' they made good booby traps.  A grenade with the pin pulled would just fit in them.  Put in two or three grenades and hang it someplace with a trip wire and it made a very servicable trap.  But the problem was when you were firing them there were generally other things on you mind than future booby traps.
