Map of the area of Operation Meade River.

The Horseshoe, shown in the picture on a preceeding page, is pointed out here.  Anyone knowing anything about Golf Company's actions in this area please get hold of me.

The railroad had had no actual tracks for a number of years.  The berm was maybe 6-8 feet high and about the same width at the top, as I remeber seeing it anyway.  It was the major feature of the terrain in this whole area.  By looking at the map you can see the it was an extremly flat around there.  The open rice paddies and the numerous tree-lines offered a lot of defensive possibilities for the enemy, and they made the most of it.

The red line at the bottom is Route 4 which ran up Happy alley to Hill 52.   Hill 55 is just off the map's upper right hand corner.
