Dodge City and the area of Operation Meade River.

The pictures on this page are from the Marine Corps Historical Collection, I don't know when the picture was taken but it was probably November 1968.  This is the area of Operation Meade River.  The "Horseshoe" is where Golf Co. had their major contact at the start of the operation.

The picture is upside down, the river at the top is actually the southern boundary.  The "Horseshoe" and the railroad are as marked.  The North Bunker Complex was a major NVA stronghold.  Several companies of Marines and several days were required to take it.  For further information on Operation Meade River click below:
Operation Meade River
From the Marine Corps Historical Collection
This is the "Horseshoe" area of Meade River.  The bottom of the picture is the west side.  According to the "Marine Corps Historical Collection" Golf Co.  assaulted this area from the west on November 20, 1968 at about 4:30.  They made very heavy contact with what turned out to be NVA.  In the ensuing fighting Golf left six bodies behind.  They were not recovered until the 22nd.  A map of the area of Meade River is on the next page.

I would like to hear from those who fought here.  Who were the men killed on the 20th?  What happened?  Anything you could tell me.

When I came to Golf I remember that often the conversation would turn to this operation.  It had a big impact on the men who went through it.  David Call talked about it several times to me before he was shot.  When I called him at his home a few years ago one of his first questions was to ask me if I was on Meade River.
