These were taken at China Beach.  Norm Brower told me that it was in June, 1969.  Norm was a machine gunner with 1st Platoon.  He was wounded August 26th.  He now works for the Veterans Administration in Pennsylvania.

The only person I recognize is Frank Stewart.  He is facing us in the bottom picture.  Frank made it home ok.   On June 20, 1969 Frank left 1st Platoon and went to supply.  He rotated home in Sept/Oct probably.  Frank was a dependable Marine and very well thought of.  David Call told me that while they were at Hill 22 (shortly before I joined the company) they saw several (seems like he said it was 12-13) NVA moving along a ridge several hundred yards north of the hill.  Frank grabbed an M-60 and managed to drop all but a couple of them before they could get away.  When we were fighting in Hiep Duc Valley in August Frank volunteered to rejoin the company even though he had already more than done his share.  Ray Rankin told me that when he was returning from the hospital in Danang the helicopter landed him at LZ Ross.  Before he could gather up his gear and get off Frank got on and told him that the company needed every man they could get and he was going out.

Its funny the things you remember.  Frank and I were talking one day at Cobb Bridge about being in country and married.  He told me his wife's name was Bunny, now why should I remember that all these years?  He was from Kissimmee, Florida.  That was where we had our 1999 reunion.  I tried to look him up but there was no Frank Stewart in the phone book.

I have one other memory of him.  While at Cobb Bridge we had to get some sort of shot.  We all lined up and the Corpsmen gave the shots.  While I was walking away I heard some yelling and looked back to see Frank passed out on the ground.
