Ray Barnhart English 102, Rivera November 9th, 2004 "Mock" Introduction Paragraph to Passing Essay In this essay I will show that Irene and Clare are sexually attracted to each other because of the others lifestyle and passing. It is obvious in the novel Passing by Nella Larsen, that Clare and Irene have feelings for each other beyond that of norml friends; but why do they have this attraction? It is partially because of looks, but mainly because of their desire and envy of the others' lifestyle. Irene envies Clare's ability to seemlesly pass as a beautiful white woman; and Clare envies Irene and her home life, with no worries of being discovered as a black passing as a white.
