Sengiggi, Lombok, Indonesia. Our own experience was that of asking a 'Western-looking'
man directions to the nearest money changer. Originally British, he
kindly offered to take us in his car to his office. There, he explained,
'we offer many services'. En route, he told us that his
organisation was set up to help the Indonesian people. Upon arrival
at his office, we were asked to The organisation is called Royal Resorts Lombok. In our short time there, we were approached five times by 'Western' and Australian people, on the back of motorbikes or walking on the street who were extremely pushy and did not take 'no' for an answer. They usually opened with 'we are doing a survey'. On Bali, we also experienced the Time-share pushing, but in a different guise. Here, it manifested itself with a survey which we were asked to complete when paying for a meal. Offering the possibility of winning a holiday they asked for our hotel room number. Later, we received a call, informing us that we had won the vacation. In order to collect our 'gift', we had to call down to their office and listen to their time-share publicity. When we refused to do this, we did not get our gift. Here, we were also stopped on the street and handed the Royal Gold Rush cards. When we scratched indentical pictures, we also won a holiday. Again, to collect, we had to listen to the publicity. The holidays being offered were at locations where the Royal Resorts have their time-share accommodation.
