Trainspotting - the play
Based on the Irvine Welsh novel, the play Trainspotting had its origins in Scotland in 1996 when Harry Gibson adapted it for a touring production throughout Great Britain.

It was well-received and evolved over the years but only jumped across the ocean on rare occasion, having stagings in Toronto and New York.

In 2002, Roger Mathey and seat of your pants Productions brought the adaptation to Los Angeles and staged it at Theatre/Theater in Hollywood.

Opening in February, 2002 to critical acclaim, it ran through the end of May and boasted such esteemed audience members as Academy Award winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan, acclaimed film director Penelope Spheeris, and Academy Award winning actor Kevin Spacey, all who gave the production high praise.

Cited as a "a fierce life-affirming dance with death" by the Los Angeles Times, they also ranked it in their top ten plays of 2002 in L.A.

Currently looking to transplant the show to New York, Trainspotting managed to affect a great many people from the cast to the audience, and hopes to find it's way to the Big Apple...
