Welcome to my first web site

This is a web site I am building for a class, but it will have links to subjects I am interested in. Here is a brief introduction to some of these subjects.

The Appalachian Trail - This is 2100 mile wilderness trail that runs along the Appalachian Mountain Range from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. The trail is managed by volunteers members of local hiking clubs which are coordinated by the non-profit Appalachian Trail Conference.

GIS - Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used to gather, store, manage, and analyze spatial data. Common applications of GIS include utility mapping, environmental management, tax parcel mapping, school bus routing, and market analysis.

Bird Watching - This is a growing pastime for all ages and income groups. Some people are attracted by the beauty and songs of birds, others simply enjoy a relaxing day out in the field, and many are drawn in by the challenge of locating and identifying a long list of birds.

Hiking - Whether for a few hours, a day, a week, or months, people enjoy getting out into the woods, away from civilization. Many trails provide hiking opportunities ranging from an easy stroll to strenuous mountaineering.
