About My Pacific Crest Trail Journey
(1990 - '91)

On the 15th of April, '90, got off the shuttle bus at Campo, CA. Walked two miles to the Mexician Border, then back to the highway, and a few miles up the trail.

That summer, hiked to Castle Crags SP, CA, about 1500 miles. Had many a good times, and a few bad ones.

The Mojave Desert was very hot. At that time, the trail ran for a 100 miles throught it. Since then its been rerouted up through the Teton Ranch. Water wasn't a problem, as I dipped into the aquaduct that runs from the Owens valley to LA. Did most of my hiking at night, though sometimes the winds were to strong to do so.

The High Sierra's were majestic. The PCT runs nearly 500 miles through this range. I didn't go out of the mountains for re-supply. On the JMT part, I went west, to Kings Canyon NP Cedar Grove Ranger Station. Took the Bubbs trail to it, and the Rainbow trail from it, back to the PCT. All along the Sierria's, only had a problem with bears south of the Devil's Postpile. My left foot sort of gave out, just south of Yosemite NP. I rested it for a few days, at the campground there.

At the range's northern end, the last high climb was the Sierra Buttes, just out of Sierra City.

For '91, started at Castle Crags SP, CA, in June (Stopped there in '90). Once over the 2500 foot climb out, I had a great hike to the Canadian Border, about 1000 miles. In a few places had some problems with water crossings, as the snow melt was still heavy. I completed the PCT on 1 Sep.

Did have some rough encounters with snow along some sections of the PCT. At Foresteer Pass and In the Marble Mts, CA, but mainly south, around of Crater Lake NP, OR, and north of it, in the Three Sisters Mtns area

Tried to find Bigfoot, didn't have any luck!

This is a very brief description of my PCT trek, but I've misplaced my trail jorunals. When I find them, I will fill in all the gaps.

In all, the PCNST, has been the best overall long-distance backpacking I've done so far.
