For the first time in five long years, someone has finally defended their title and it has happened in the same tournament. In 2004 Kim Host won the Hayfever Invitational for the second year running and half a decade later Greg Sadler notched up his second straight Hayfever crown. Last year he only narrowly pipped Martin Walsh by 0.3 strokes. This year he blew the field away with a magnificent 10 under par round, four strokes clear of a rejuvenated Paul Baxter. Sadler attributed his stunning form reversal to acupunture treatment on his tendonitis, but the TWGA Committee is purportedly investigating if there is anything liquid and illegal being pumped through the needles into his veins!

PLAYER OF THE YEAR - IT'S THE CLOSEST EVER
Messy rounds by longstanding frontrunners  Joe Wastie and Les Ratajczak has left the door wide open for the 2009 Championship. Greg Sadler's brilliant has catapulted him into second place just 0.01 point behind Wastie with Ratajczak just 0.9 points behind. Meanwhile last year's winner Craig Waine has caught everyone unawares and surrepticiously slipped into fourth place within striking distance of the leaders.

THE TOUKLEY WANDERERS GOLF ASSOCIATION

The Toukley Wanderers Golf Association is a group of tiring, middle-aged masochists who enjoy putting themselves through psycho-physical torture on a monthly basis by playing a game of golf. To ease the painful reality of their mediocre golfing prowess and to inject some meaning into their pathetic golfing careers, the TWGA was established in mid-2001 to enable them to feel, even if only in their fantasies, like the PGA players they once dreamed of becoming.

The title "Toukley Wanderers" was the secondary school self-designation of the original members. However, true to its expansive approach to golf and life, the TWGA has welcomed other struggling slicers, duffers, shankers and hackers into its ranks to share the agony and ecstasy of a good walk spoiled.
