History of the Dachshund
The Dachshund originated in Germany in the 1800's. They were breed to hunt badger, fox and even wild boar! Their slendor, low to the ground bodies were perfect for going in the borrow for their prey and in packs they intemidated the largest of wild boar. Today they participate in earth dog competions, are trained for drug dogs in airports because of their size and ability to go up a luggae shoot in search of contriban, and just plain being your families best friend!
I will now introduce myself, my family and my Dachshunds! My name is Tara, I'm married to a wonderful man, have four beautiful children, two grandsons, and currently 13 Dachshunds! I have loved the breed since I was a little girl and I have discovered that the Dachshund is an under appreciated breed and I am looking to change that. As a young girl our family Dachshunds were just pets and I've always looked at my dogs as my beloved pets, nothing more. But I have learned quiet a bit about my favorite breed from research and studying their behavior at my home. As you might have read in the History of the Dachshund, they were breed to hunt. I've never personally trained one to hunt or hunted them, but my greastest Dachshund ever, My Little Man Tate, would scratch at the bottom of our stove after a mouse for hours and on occasion he would catch one bringing it to your feet. He could also bay a snake, saving several people from getting snake bit, and taking the bite of an approx. 6 ft. diamond back rattlesnake for my father-in-law, probably saving his life. Tate did survive the rattlesnake bite to live on, but became crippled in late 1998 and is no longer with us, his memory will never die! Tate, we love you! In 2000 we decided to buy another Dachshund because we had always wanted a dapple and so came Doppler! He is a red dapple and the head of our breeding foundation. I think that educating people about one of the greatest, most versatile breeds, will help the Dachshund make a come back! This is my goal and I now breed Miniture Dachshunds to sell to families with lots of love and a need for something they're missing, their very own "Weenie Dog"!
This is My Little Man Tate! We love you Tatorbean! 12/25/93-02/02/1999
