Daine woke up in the middle of the night feeling a loss inside
herself. Something is different, she thought. Her life had gone through a lot
lately with her and Numair becoming ever closer. They were even planning a
wedding for next Spring. She still could not figure out what was bugging her so
much. She looked to her side Numair was still sleeping there. She reached with
her magic to the stables and there she found it, Cloud was dying. She jumped out
of bed so fast she almost fell out of bed.
“Daine what is a matter?” Numair
asked.
“It’s Cloud she is dying I have to go to her,” Daine said. Daine ran
to the stables to find Cloud laying in her stall.
“Cloud let me help you,”
Daine said her voice beginning to shake.
"No Don’t", Cloud said
“But I
can’t loose you,” Daine said tears running down her face.
"Daine it is my
time to go and you know it", Cloud said her voice getting weaker in Daine’s
mind. Daine just sat holding Cloud the rest of the night as she cried. Daine
woke the next morning to Numair taking her back to their room.
“Put me
down,” Daine yelled.
“No,” Numair said as he tightened his grip on her.
“I have to go back to her,” Daine said the tears beginning to fall again.
“She’s gone Daine there is nothing more you can do for her so shh. Now,
would she want you to cry so much? No, she wanted you to be strong. Now calm
down,” Numair said. They buried Cloud under her favorite tree in the meadow.
“She is at peace now with her family,” Numair said to Daine.
“I know,
but I miss her so much,” Daine said. Daine spent the next couple of days in bed.
By the end of the third day she could not take kittens yelling at her anymore.
So she took her out for a walk. She stopped at Clouds grave and put some flowers
on it.
“Your up, good, I could use your help with the new foal,” Onua said.
“Don’t now Onua,” Daine said, but before she could argue any more Onua was
dragging her to the stables. There in front of her was a steel gray little foal.
The little foal walked up to her and nuzzled her.
"My name is Storm
because I am the color of storm clouds", The little foal said.
“Well
hello my name is Daine,” She said not believing how much she looked like cloud.
“Daine I don’t really have the time for this little girl with all the riders
training going on so would you take care of her,” Onua said.
“I don’t know
Onua,” Daine said. Just then a wind came through the barn.
"Stop feeling
sorry for yourself." It was Clouds voice. Kitten was also yelling at her
too.
“Okay you all three win,” Daine said.
“All three, I only see two,”
Onua said.
“That wind it was Cloud,” Daine said. In a way Storm was a new
Cloud, but Cloud would always be number one in Daine’s heart.
