Bombing Mesopotamia (2002) Bombing Mesopotamia Again: Why Poets Should Oppose the Bombing of Iraq. Very soon hell will show up in the skies of Iraq dropping fire and death. Once again America will bomb the cradle of civilization. The place where five thousands years ago Sumerians began constructing the first cities of what we know as "civilization." Bombing Iraq is bombing the place where we moved from prehistory to history. Fruits Of Wrath (2001) It is winter. Nonetheless we all buy summer-fresh fruit from the local supermarket. Probably those delicious fruits on our tables are from Chile. If that's the case, let me then tell you a story. Going Back Home (1999) After many years in exile I decided to go back to Chile for sabbatical. In 1999, I spent 10 months in Chile. I went there to see my family, but also as a way of proving to myself to what extent I could deal with the past in today's Chile. I went there also to see If I could find the footprints of the dreamer I was once, the young adult, inspired by Che Guevara. Censura en los EEUU (2001) Dan a Conocer los 10 reportajes mas censurados. La censura vivita y Coleando en los EEUU. En cuanto a noticias, no son muchas las opciones en el país del Tio Sam. Cada dia los estadounidenses se ven expuestos a un número reducido de noticias de poco contenido y profundidad. Pocos grupos controlan los medios escritos, de televisón y de radio. Dos o tres medios nacionales dictan las noticias del día para todo el país. La censura aparece cuando los medios de comunicación reflejan los intereses y las políticas de las corporaciones que las poseen. Es mas asolapada. No hay agentes del gobierno en las salas de prensa, sin embargo, con la monopolización de los medios de comunicación, las noticias de contenido que tienen que ver con estos intereses son parciales, minimizadas o simplemente ignoradas. Masturbación; Pasatiempo Favorito de los Americanos (2001) Reconocimiento público a uno de los pasatiempos favoritos de los americanos: Declaran mayo como El Mes de la Masturbación. Diversas organizaciones que promueven la práctica del sexo saludable en los Estados Unidos han declarado el mes de mayo como el Mes de la Masturbación. Desde 1975, el Global Village Berkeliano lleva un gran pedazo de Chile en su interior: distintivo encanto de este centro cultural ubicado en la ciudad más atípica y progresista de toda California: la “República Independiente” de Berkeley. The Zapatour (2001) I ask myself what would happen if the Zapatistas had started their march in the southern cone of the continent? The Zapatistas trek would have been joined by the Uruguayan peasantry's Marcha del Pueblo, in Brazil, thousands of starving street children may have taken up the Zapatistas flags to break open the windows of the fancy restaurants in search of food. In Chile Indians would have welcomed them telling their stories about the struggle against deforestation, the construction of dams, land seizures, alcoholism, malnutrition and other social afflictions that challenge these proud people who were never defeated by the conquistadors.
