The Amber Spyglass has won the Whitbread Award! The announcement was made on Tuesday 22nd January 2002. This is the first time in around thirty years that a children's book has won the award. You can see the Whitbread Award site by clicking this address
http://www.whitbread-bookawards.co.uk/

Here you can view other awards that are taking place or have taken place, and also news about the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. You can view the winners and shortlist here.

ALSO -
The company New Line have bought the film rights to His Dark Materials from Scholastic! See here for more details.

Actually, this news is a bit late, but I read it while abroad..! Anyway, Philip Pullman is on the shortlist or list for the Booker Award! Which is the first time a children's author has been put on the list, so well done Philip Pullman (if you're reading this)!! :D

23/5/01
Philip Pullman is on the shortlist for the prestigious Carnegie Medal book award!

Other authors on the shortlist include: David Almond, Melvin Burgess, Sharon Creech, Jamila Gavin, Adele Geras, Alan Gibbons and Beverly Naidoo.

The information below was submitted by Robert J. Eckhart - so all credit goes to him.

According to www.readerville.com- (see the events page), Philip Pullman is planning a companion book for the HDM series, and it will be titled, 'The Book of Dust'. Personally, IMO, I hope he does go through with this :)

Email for the code

Just like to say that since the webring has grown a lot more, you're going to have to email the last person on the list for permission to join on - so you'll have to keep on clicking the 'next' button to find that site - sorry :/

If you want, I can still give you the code - just make sure you check which site is the last on the list.

His Dark Materials Book Reviews (by fans)
I suppose you could put this into fanworks, but never mind. What I want is for some people to submit a book review on either one of the books in the trilogy, or the whole trilogy (if you really want to)! I can't say that I'll choose all of them - for I will impose a limit on how many can be shown on a page (this may change), but if you send a review in, it will get shown on that page. It's basically a page for showing the different views of readers of the HDM trilogy/ showing our appreciation of them/ giving potential HDM readers an insight into the books - what you thought of them.

So if anyone's interested - please send your review in! :D Thanks! - Kirjava

PS - Please spellcheck all your reviews, and tell me whether you want your email address to be shown. If you don't say, I'll assume you'll want it shown, so you've been warned. Reviews cannot go like this, "HDM RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" While it's complimentary, it's a little short ;)
