Toronto Action Award

The Action Toronto Award is a program developed by the Greater Toronto Council to help Section Scouters plan quality programs which achieve Scouts Canada Program Standards. The Award is recognition by the Council that a Section has achieved this standard.

Any Colony, Pack, Troop, or Company within the Greater Toronto Council may participate in the award program. By meeting the requirements of the award a well-balanced and active program is provided for the Section. The Action Toronto Award is available in Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels ... Bronze is a good goal for a Section just joining the program, Silver for the established Section, and Gold for the one that wants to reach for the top! This award program provides Scouters, and the youth in the Section the opportunity to work as a team to develop a great program and have your efforts rewarded.

The Council presents each successful Section an Award Certificate and a large display crest.

These are the requirements for the Pack Toronto Action Award: (note: values in table are cumulative, to get the gold level must complete number in bronze and silver column plus gold column)

1. Program Planning

   • Plans reflect the mission & goals of Scouts Canada and program elements outlined in the Cub Leader's Handbook
   • Pack has documented short range (one month) plan
   • Pack has documented medium range (three month) plan
   • Pack has documented long range (one year) plan
   • Minimum 1 program planning meeting
   • Programs conducted as described in Wolf Cub Leader's Handbook
   • All plans incorporate appropriate safety measures
      

2. Outdoors

   Opportunities are provided as often as possible for Cubs to participate in outdoor activities.

   • At least part of one regular meeting per month outdoors
   • One weekend outing every two months
   • Three nights at camp annually

3. Basic Program Elements

   The program provides Cubs with regular opportunities to engage in activities utilizing basic program elements

4. Youth Input

   • Cubs are regularly consulted and utilized appropriately in program planning and delivery
   • Sixers and Seconds regularly used as part of the leadership team
   • A Sixers' Council meets on a regular basis
      

5. Administration and Group Responsibilities

   • All Section records are kept up-to-date
   • Section budget and financial records presented to Group for approval
   • The Section participates in fund-raising activities as required
      

6. Community Service/Good Turns

   Opportunities provided for participation in community service/events

   Spiritual emphasis is regularly incorporated throughout the program

   • Opening and closing prayers
   • Use of Promise, Law, Motto

8. Environmental Awareness

   Opportunities are provided as often as possible for activities which increase their understanding and awareness of their roll in preserving the environment

   • All activities are conducted in a manner which reflects appropriate environmental awareness and practices

9. Linking

   Opportunities are provided for Cubs to interact with Beavers and Scouts as often as possible

   • One regular meeting + one other activity with a Colony annually
   • One regular meeting + one other activity with a Troop annually
   • Kim is used as a part of the leadership team
   • A Cub is selected to serve as Keeo with a Beaver Colony
   • Formal swimming-up and going-up ceremonies (with prior visits)
   • Senior Cubs have one other opportunity to interact with a Troop
   • An activity with White Tail Beavers introducing them to the Pack
      

10. Family Involvement

    • Parental involvement is encouraged
    • Regular communication to keep parents informed - meetings, phone, newsletter, etc.
