I don't expect many people to understand my life, my actions, or my career decisions. They flow from a stream-of-consciousness, spur-of-the-moment thought process that both scares and agitates others, while making me feel alive and adventurous. There are not many decisions I have made in my life that would be considered the "safe choice". I always feel that if the decision could possibly harm no one other than myself, then it is a good choice. And, I am sure that if people say "I wouldn't do that" about one of my ideas, then I probably will.

A few significant pieces of writing that influence my life and make-up my philosophy on life and living...

THE CHALLENGE
I still have a copy of a poem that the ex-Dallas Cowboys General Manager Tex Schramm kept on his desk, written by Theodore Roosevelt. I am not sure of the name anymore, but to paraphrase, it goes something like this..

"...the credit belongs to the man in the ring, who's face is marred by sweat and blood..and not to those cold and timid souls (critics)  that know neither victory nor defeat."

THE PURSUIT
Another, sent to me by my sister Dolly, was written by Mark Twain:

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."

THE DESIRE
And finally, Micahel Palin (of Monty Python fame) said of his doumentary subject Ernest Hemmingway:

"He loved to be somewhere else."
